Oh nice to see them take on this color scheme since it has always been a fav of mine~ Kinda surprised they didn't keep the boosters black though I guess adding an extra production step to paint over those is too much. Definitely a skip for me since I'd rather paint my own version, but that's awesome for those who can't customize and can have this color scheme!

Well it sounds like they already added an extra step to paint a lot of the parts, so why they ignored that one area is beyond me

Can anyone shed some light on what the deal is here? I heard its just a test shot, but why do they have all these extra sprues? From the translations, it initially sounded like there was only one duplicate sprue for the jaw, but I don't know how accurate the translator is on Google Chrome, cause it looks like they really did just go with all duplicates to me :°S www.kotobukiya.co.jp/labo/labo-111819/

From what I can tell, they didn't want to go with the painted parts option that they had for Zoids in the past, such as the Command Wolf IS. Likely because these were small details on other kits, whereas for the EM they're prominant features that'd require painting many sprues. Instead, they've opted to release it in two colors, with duplicate sprues.
(For example, the first sprue, jaw would be painted black. Second sprue, stabilizers would be gold. 3rd sprue, paw armor and more would need to be gold, 8 pieces per sprue.)
This is interesting news. It being a test shot is just referring to Koto saying they've received the first test shot of a final product, including color injections and all that.
If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

Wait, does that mean the booster covers are still available in black? also I can't wait to see the kind of mix and match some people do..

Unless I'm mistaken, it specifically says that the boosters are the one thing not coming in two colors (the sprues getting recolored all have parts that should be different colors, whereas the booster sprue only contains the 1 group of parts.) As such, it'll be staying red like the concept art provided. Which is ... annoying, but.

It's not just annoying, it makes the entire premise pointless. The only thing worse than a product that costs too much to make because of some issue is one that doesn't manage to accomplish said issue but still costs more Unless of course the red booster covers were the intention all along but the original kit didn't make it possible...

I think it is awesome that the kit will come with so many color options. But why is Koto doing this; Does the original Liger Zero EM have "incorrect" colors?
And why does it matter that the boosters won't be black?

Presumably, the colour changes are so that if/when Koto releases a Liger Zero X (fingers crossed), it won't have the annoying little bits of red the original X suffers from.

It went over my head the boosters were in fact red in the original concept art, so I went and checked on the very first page on this thread. Yep, red. So I guess it was their own design choice~
I had expected them to change a lot of things so I'm not in the least bothered, and I only ordered cause this has been an interesting historical moment, even if small, so glad to take part I°D

Even in video games the boosters are black but there will be so many extra parts with this kit who knows, I'll just paint them black

This wasn't an 'oversight' on the original motorized kit either, I don't think. The kit not only had plenty of painted details (cockpit, boosters already, etc.) but the boosters were their own sprue, and still cast in black. So yeah, it is very annoying.
The duplicates are because parts from almost every sprue would have to be painted otherwise, and that'd be a lot of really obvious sprue marks compared to earlier painted kits. The Saber Tiger GT for example, was at least cast on a gold sprue. But if you cut a gold painted part from an EM and had a bright red sprue mark, that'd be awful.
It's very sad they wouldn't go the extra mile to cast the boosters in black. It'd match the rest of the kit. Hopefully I am misreading things and it will come with black after all, but if not, guess I will be trying to paint a booster unit.

I don't I just use the tamiya spray cans

Nahh, never could get the cheaper ones to work, and too cheap to buy a proper one, haha. I'd only use it like 3 times, ever, so the cost of a compressor and all that.
I've got some Tamiya paints, though.

I've used Tamiya spray paints for a few Zoids customs. In relative, they are more money than spray paint, but they are the closest to an airbrush I can find in can form :°3
