It doesn't sound like it's my thing either.. I can't just be okay with ruining things Er... that's called vandalism not customising! Not quite the point of the exercise!! I hope you're not insinuating that all customs are just ruined things are you?.... Too be fair some cvustoms totally ruin the original lines of a zoid or were asse, bled in ahst and look like junk. ANd I suppose I could use my spare parts to a gordos I ahve, body, motor, legs, part of the tail, etc. Not enough for a full zoid. ANd be too much trouble to rebuiuld it.

True, speaking only from my experience with the 1/6 figure and custom motorcycle (real not 1/6) worlds, there are plenty of bloody awful builds out there! And yes sadly some of them have used very rare collectable pieces to make them but anyone new to custom builds with any sense would start out small, meaning cheap and common place donor parts, such as using a $15 Chinese KO base body for a 1/6 figure build not a $200+ rare Hot Toys Rambo seamless muscle body, or in the case of bikes, use a cheap reliable mass produced Japanese engine not a vintage Harley Davidson 1950's Panhead! At least not until they have had a lot of experience under their belt and have the skills and talent to actually warrant using parts like that and even then they/I wouldn't destroy a complete classic for a custom but recycle old unused parts to bring new life to them, not destroy anything.I'll leave you to your own analogies for Zoids since I haven't really looked at any customs yet (aside from Google results).

The CWolf Irvine is one of the most common "limited" zoids and the molga is common as dirt. Many small wind ups are common. And spare parts lots are good choices to start too.

Try getting the Irvine Cwolf in HMM though, expensive and rare! Like the Imperial version too, ouch!

No my point is I have to have a decent guarantee of success before I want to try anything like that. the idea of "just dive into it, make some mistakes, and learn" is something I'm okay with when it comes to, say cooking. You can always buy another roast. But expensive and precious model kits? They break often enough as it is

You're right of course, it all depends on your perspective as a collector, if understandably you don't want to risk an unsuccessful result on a Zoid, i.e. : destroying it by mistake practice on something similar that's plentiful like cheap Chinese knock offs (KO's) of Zoids, Transformers, Lego etc.. They're all made from similar plastics (polymers) with similar sizes and purposes behind the toys i.e.: construction, Sci-Fi, moving parts etc.. And being KO's you won't be upsetting anyone really, even KO collectors are known to destroy them on purpose!
This guy is great fun!

How do you find knockoffs though... at lelast zoids ones that would at least work for aprts, gundam anf transformer oens are a dime a dozen. ANd honestly some of those knock offs had kickass guns that could be chopped up for mounted weapons

Huh, kitbashing knockoffs. that's not a bad idea at all. I haven't seen any knockoff model kits though, only figures.. totally different assembly and plastic situation.

Apparently they look the same box wise but don't say HMM on them. I think it was ZGzoids on You Tube who warned about them being on eBay.

I have heard the knock-offs don't fit as well, and some have different features. I would love to get some knock-offs for the purpose of kitbashing, though.

Now that could be interesting, but yeah, if you gotta kitbash, a cheap knockoff would be great for parts, if it at least looks like what you want then you can add detail or trim if the plastic isn't too bad

There's a bunch of HMM knockoffs from a company called STK. I used to see them a lot on Amazon but not anymore. Black Knight is another one.
