It's also up on HLJ... should we start a proper unified thread for it or rename this one?

I think renaming this one is probably the way to go. ^_^

Thanks! And agreed, there isn't a lot more to discuss of this guy now that it's up on TT mall. Really can't wait to see how its scale compares in a direct side comparison, though.

Hahahahaha!
Well, I've ordered, um, three, so expect a review from me as soon as HLJ's ready to ship, and you better believe I'll be comparing it to every Zoid whose name starts with a G.

It's coming out on August 8th instead of July 18th.

SO weird thinking about how tiny Wild zoids are. The old 1/20 ones were already weird but this is weiiird.

I really don't know what they were thinking with the scale. After all, this thing is supposed to me a MASSIVE machine. It would rival Deathsaurer if it were 1/72 scale... and they would only have had to change a cockpit!

I really don't know what they were thinking with the scale. Honestly, I think it's a decision that stems from the anime. I'm watching CC again at the moment, and the interactions between the characters are always a bit weird; they're sitting in their closed cockpits talking to each other, and obviously the implication is that they somehow have radios or whatever, but who can hear who is basically just determined by whatever the plot requires at any given moment. Why would you have an open comms channel with someone you're fighting? I mean, other than so that the villain can gloat about what an incompetent pilot you are? With the way it works in the ZW anime, the characters can see each other and it makes sense that they would be able to interact. But of course it looks dumb on the actual toys, especially because the pilot figures are so fugly. It's really more that and the clear plastic that I don't understand. Visible pilots have worked in the past at 1/72 and 1/24 scale, there's no reason this couldn't have worked, but... ugh.

Close! The scale was chosen because it made the Zoids much more likable to children. With the 1/72 scale Zoids, it's difficult (and extremely limiting, from a camera angle perspective) to regularly animate interactions between the pilots and their Zoids. They wanted them to be smaller so that this would look more natural, and being in the same frame meant they'd be able to interact more as characters than as tools. This is also why they went with riders instead of pilots. The aforementioned "isolated in their own boxes" syndrome made the Zoids feel distinctly disconnected from their pilots a lot of the time, while as riders, they feel more like they are one. Like a horse and rider.
I suspect the clear pilots are a combination of not blocking as much of the kit, visually, and because they would be less 'in your face' about the scale.

well also it used to be harder to have 2d interact with 3d, they've gotten a lot better at that. you can use computers now to move the digitally-animated 2d characters perfectly in line with the models. thing is in real life you still couldn't hear someone on top of, essentially a giant motorcycle. It's a theatrical conceit, but so is radios that automatically go where you want them to, like star trek communicators I would have liked if they simply kept smaller zoids as a thing that exists, like the SS zoids and small windups, or even the old command zoids... but alongside bigger ones. Then you could have a scrappy unit of smaller zoids piloted by younger people as the protagonists, interacting alongside the 'pros' in their big ones..

I'm guessing "final" means with text and stuff. Normally they post the final version on Dengeki Hobby Online, but for this guy they didn't.
The tail still looks so good. Funny how from that angle it disappears though, so he just... doesn't have a tail lol. Which isn't a knock against the kit, just found it amusing.
