Hahaha. Let me guess, it's the proportions? They're so eerily human... like a guy in a suit standing in for a monster in a movie, and they just don't shoot the feet because they couldn't get the digitigrade stilts to work, and they substitute puppet feet in for those shots...

It does look a bit weird, but there's so much beautiful, wonderful greeblage that I don't care, I guess. I just know you're a stickler for anatomy, so I figured it had to be something about the wonky proportions that bugs you. The feet are also absolutely massive for no apparent reason.

Yep although big paws do kind of suit a zoid that is this small, from a broader perspective, imagining how it looks in 1/72 scale... but actually the feet themselves, that is the toe to ankle length, is quite short. that's part of what's so weird. I do agree though the greebles are wonderful and the way there are holes in the armor to let other colors show through... that's good stuff. Classic Zoids.

And here's the Gilraptor LC, or Laser Custom as it's actually called. On the one hand, it's just another Gilraptor. On the other... it's my favorite so far.

Love the color swap on this one... reminds me of the Golden Era kits.

Here's the HMM Wild Liger. Overall it's a pleasant surprise, but it's almost too close to the original.

The detachable pegs are for attaching any compatible 3mm peg weapons, which includes tons of MSG parts and all of the original motorized Wild parts. The box art is also a reference to the first battle between Wild Liger and Gilraptor in the anime. I do agree though that it could've been better executed, and doesn't really stand out among HMMs. Great review though! I agree on a lot of points. The HMMs are hard to justify with their similarity to the motos, if you've already got the motos. I also feel like HMM Wild Liger looks worse than the moto in almost every way. The comparison photos really make that obvious to me now. The skinny lizard toes and the fat bones look... weird, and the changes to the face removed the 'expressions' from different angles that Wild Liger had and... just kinda make it look round and derpy. There's nothing fierce about this Zoid. It was one I really wanted to get when it was announced, but there are just too many things not to like about it to justify the price tag.

Yeah, I kind of figured the detachable pegs had to be for additional weapons, it's just odd that the instructions don't show any examples. I'm sure it's in the Japanese text, but I guess I've gotten so used to TT's instructions always illustrating everything lately (no doubt because they're more for kids) that I thought it was weird. I really should have tried slapping some of the new CP weapons on it, though, with hindsight.
I actually prefer the HMM version's proportions myself, but I was thinking yesterday that especially given the Wild Blast gimmicks of the ZW models (which really all have been good after some of the weirder experiments on the early models), they're going to have to come up with a better reason for the HMM versions to exist than just the fact they're poseable. Otherwise you basically get the same model for twice the price minus the walking movement...

Thanks for your review. A little surprising that it's underwhelming-- I would have thought that with a "new" scale and design sensibility Koto would have knocked it out of the park at least in the looks department. Mine should arrive this week so I'll get to compare for myself too.

Love that it can mount MSG kits! Koto is making sure all of their products are cross-compatible... good notion!

Yeah, somebody had to explain that to me in the comments, but that's what those pegs are for, ahem. If I can find a cool pair of guns to mount on the shoulder armor, I might just actually get around to painting this one someday.

I like several MSG kits, but I do like to shave off the extra pegs and make them look a bit less "universal". My sniper custom used the Kotobukiya MSG #17 Revolving Buster Cannon... a nice kit with some decent customizing options.

I've occasionally looked at these MSG kits and they're certainly interesting, it's just hard to tell what size they are with a lot of them, so you don't know how useful they're going to be.

Very true. Koto posts photos of their kits with their Frame Arms models, but that doesn't really help if you don't own any of those kits! They should post a pic with a common Zoid for comparison as well, since they own the HMM line.
