Got to build mine over the weekend and had largely the same impressions you did DE. A little silly how slightly the blades "extend" in blast mode. Regarding your (rhetorical) question-- whoever their target audience is, I'm definitely in that group haha. I'm a fan of the anime and I can't wait to block off some time and get this one painted.
Edit: forgot to mention, the Zoids Core section on mine didn't seem to fall out the way yours did, so maybe one of us got lucky/unlucky.

I kind of thought maybe it's designed to be a bit more loose, actually - the core sections on the older HMMs are usually such a tight fit that it's impossible to paint them and still have them be removable. Oh well.

Also meant to say, I also found it weird how the Arashi figure just sort of is there on the Liger. Because of the riding pose, he more or less stays where he's supposed to be, but it is weird how there don't seem to be any instructions or physical indentations on the saddle piece for how exactly the figure is meant to attach to the model.

Yeah, that bugs me too. I didn't explain it properly in my review, but I really have no idea how to put him on there. With the hands around the armor? Under the armor? Not a clue.

So, funny story. Like with everything else, I preordered the combined Burning Liger/Impact Gatling set as soon as HLJ had it on the site, but like a lot of other people, I ended up not getting one and having to buy the two separately from two different sources. Then I got an e-mail from HLJ telling me the set had been discontinued, so I ordered two more Ligers for the CD weapons that are coming out soon and more gatlings in case I want to use them for kitbashing, but I also never deleted the previous order for the combined set.
Fast forward a few weeks and suddenly I have one. Zuh? Aside from the fact that I now have a ton of Ligers (which I'll hold on to because I'm sure I'll paint them eventually), I don't mind, but HLJ's preorders have been getting... less reliable lately. Hopefully it's Covid and not the company themselves.
Anyway, I decided to do a quick unboxing video because I'm guessing a lot of people wanted one of these and couldn't get one.

Really nice kit! The aesthetics are pretty incredible. I'm pretty impressed with the "knee illusion", but disappointed with the arm/head mechanic. Still, from just a display aspect, a killer design! I still think it looks a lot like a pre (or POST) Deadborder, so it will probably get shelf space from me just for that... along with the appropriate paint.

Thanks for sharing the review! Like Maethius I also dig the faux jointed knee, though as you mention the jerky motions are not the best-looking. A lot going right with this kit.

Definitely a step (heh) in the right direction. Zoids might be back on track

Yeah, like I said in the video, it really feels more like an oldschool Zoid than anything else in the line so far. Except maybe the Grizis as well, come to think of it.

Took me two weeks longer than I thought, but here it is, finally:

The new CP kits look pretty sweet! I do wish they wouldn't make so many hallows in the pieces, though; it would lake a lot to fill them (and they would weigh twice as much)

It'd be easier to just saw them off and replace them with styrene pipe.
