I have finally decided to make a custom version of my favorite Zoid, the humble Gordos. The stock version of this Zoid has two major flaws: The first is that it lacks side armor. The second and most glaring (to me at least) is that the Zoid with the most powerful radar array has no radar guided missiles! I intend to correct both of these issues with my custom. I have made some custom missiles out of spare computer parts and some nobbley connecty toys I got at goodwill for a dollar. imgur.com/a/QqVTmBut I am still looking for ideas on how to add custom armor (or perhaps side shields like the Geno Breaker?). Any advice anyone might have about making armor or some more ideas for more missiles would be greatly appreciated.

An idea that I have been working on for a Command Wolf custom - measure the distance between any open pegs and use a 3D CAD software to design your own armor.
No matter what you do, I would say, given the design of Godos, your best bet is to start by removing the existing weaponry and seeing what you can try to add.

Thanks for your response! This is my first post but from the learning I've done this seemed like a very welcoming community and I can see I was right about that!
I don't really have the skills with CAD and I feel like all that work plus all the money to get a decent print wouldn't be worth it. I've thought more about it and I think if I make four of those missile pods they will serve well enough as shoulder armor so all I need is something to protect the moving parts in the flanks. Now i need to decide what to use and whether should I mount it on stationary portion of the Zoid or on the center cap that connects the front and back leg assembly. Would putting extra weight on a moving part like that greatly impact the motors ability to move the model?

Gordos can be an under-appreciated Zoids from the OJR, you gotta love that extra firepower for Cannoneer Gordos!
But true, regular Gordos can feel under-armed and under armor - would like to know if TT had a revise/revive design for Gordos if the RBZ line was very successful.
Interested to see what you got.

I actually like that idea a lot. Those compound curves could make great armor.
The issue is I already spent like 75$ on the model and I still have to buy paint. 20 bucks is a bit steep for me.
I really appreciate all the input I'm getting guys

Very cool stuff, CS! I love the missile pod! I need to find a way to make smaller scale pods.

I have no idea what the nubby toy I used for the missiles was called but I had an idea of a substitute. Those plastic dart boards for kids use the same grid of nobbley things to trap the blunt toy darts. Get one of those boards at a thrift store and you're set for life on missiles.

Nice call! I think they have some of those at our local thrift store. Dude, you're awesome!

Lol glad I could help! Tragically my model has been delayed in transit... So I don't know when I'll have more updates for this project.

So my Gordos finally came in, I have painted and assembled it with the stock equipment to get a better feel for and finalize the fit of my custom equipment. i.imgur.com/NBWPPFn.jpgMore importantly I have figured out how to add side armor. I'm have two of those triangular plates in the image (not finished painting them) and what I can do is attach them together with cable or tiny plastic chains and have them hang like saddle bags. That way they shouldn't inhibit the movement of the mechanism and it seems like a cheap and dirty upgrade a Zoid pilot might be able to fit in the field. i.imgur.com/g6Z3dM0.jpg

The paint scheme looks good. It matches well with the canopy color.

Another option you might want to look into is chop up a shampoo bottle or even a bottle of deoderant if you have an empty one laying around ala Maethius. There's always hidden gems around the house especially if you're a budget builder as they call us in the scale modeling community. just throwin that out there.

Thanks for all the feedback! I have actually been staring at the top of an old deodorant container but I was looking at it as possibly a larger box for bigger missiles, which I decided I didn't like.. But the curves of the cap could totally be shoulder armor! Good call! I'm going to play around with that and see what I can make happen the next chance I get!

I love finding intriguing shapes in household items that can add to a custom. You do have to use some caution when using bottles, though... some of them are made of soft plastics that shrug off adhesives, others are easy to cut with scissors but hard to cut with a knife, or melt/shred with a rotary tool. Try on disposable samples first!
