Picked up a Genius Wolf from Yahoo Japan for about $10+$20 or so in fees.
Im wondering if the Battle BLOX has to be connected to another game for you to battle? Or how you get to a battle otherwise? Could anyone give me an idea of what the menus do? And what on Zi is that high-pitched squeeling supposed to represent when it starts up?

Some weird power up sound maybe? I dunno myself. It's possible to turn the sound off and it's not too difficult really. You can play perfectly fine on your own and for this you only really need the first and third menu options from the main menu. Choosing the first presents you with two options, the top one taking you to your list of zoids and the second showing you a list of parts. For the most part, you can ignore the second option. The first though takes you to a list of zoids (in a new game you should see "Zoid1" followed by a whole bunch of "empty") you own and from there you can change their stats around. The third option takes you to the main battling game (yes, there is a rather large option called GAME but it's not the game) where again, you choose from a list of your zoids the zoid you wish to use. From there on it's a matter of running through the "map" defeating enemies as you go in order to gain the victories needed to further power up your zoid as well as gain the parts required to do so.
You start off with a Genius Wolf and though you can change your zoid later on, I recommend you stick with the Genius Wolf as in battle it receives a +1,000 bonus to it's speed in battle and for the most part this will be the most vital statistic for your survival.
It shouldn't be to hard to figure things out from there but if you're still confused I can write a more in depth guide tomorrow given the sheer amount of times I've smashed the final boss into pieces with a zoid that uses 100 pieces each for it's speed, defense and offense xp

Thanks Mystick. I got to the battle screen and cleared the first area *curse the Chimera Dragon*
How do I save my game, and how do I turn it off?

I haven't seen an off button really... I just leave it alone and it autpmatically turns off. It works a bit like a computer too in that you don't need to save. You make a change and it's permanent. The only exception I can think of is when you modify your zoid.
And Chimera Dragon? You must be mistaken. It doesn't show up till the third map area after Matrix Dragon.
Here's my list of the opponents you fight: Area 1 1:1 - Flyscissors/Demonshead 1:2 - Diploguns/Cannon Diver 1:3 - Mosasledge/Deantler 1:4 - Nightwise/Shellkarn Area 2 2:1 - Leoblaze/Unenlagia 2:2 - Boldguard/Genius Wolf 2:3 - Leostriker, Both Modes (grab a core from each) 2:4 - Brachiosaur/Lord Gale Area 3 3:1 - Buster Eagle 3:2 - Matrix Dragon 3:3 - Chimera Dragon 3:4 - Gojulas Giga
The difficulty jumps steeply at the Matrix Dragon as the stat totals become much higher. The Chimera Dragon has more balanced stats compared to the Matrix Dragon but is just as hard if not harder. The Gojulas Giga has stats as follows: H - 30,000 M - 2,000 G - 3,000 A - 11,000
I managed to beat the Gojulas Giga with a mere 5,000hp though my other stats were through the roof.
A tip for battling, you've probably noticed that there are three main commands, the first is a basic attack, the second is guard and the third is a special attack which can only be used once per round. Guarding halves the damage you'd normally take which can prove handy at times though I ignore it. Special attacks work on five different levels, being more powerful than your normal attack. If you find your special bar isn't filling up fast enough then it means your HP is too high for your core. Say for example you have a S1 core, your max HP is 5,000. If you have your health at 5,000HP then your special bar will fill up very very slowly. If you upgrade to an S2 core giving you a new HP cap and leave your HP as is, your gauge will fill up a lot faster. I think with either an S2 or M1 core with your HP set at 5,000, you can fill up your gauge with simply two actions. Thusly you can do something like "Attack, Attack, Special Attack" for round 1, "Attack, Special Attack, Attack" for round two and "Special Attack, Attack, Attack," for four three and every subsequent round. When I finished the game I had just the one page of victories and managed to beat the Gojulas Giga on my third round of attacks using the above technique. Gotta make sure not to get hit though xp
Feel free to ask more questions, I know it can be a confusing game at times but it's deceptively fun to play. Oh yeah, just before I forget. You've probably seen some special abilities by now. To my knowledge there's four in total. The repeat attack of the Chimera Zoids (on their last attack they're able to launch two consecutive attacks for a total of four attacks per round. I've yet to find how they do this...) and the three in-battle stat boosts. Like I said before, Genius Wolf grants a +1,000 bonus to speed in battle. Well if you looked at my enemy list I said to make sure to get both the Leostriker cores, reason being that they also possess stat boots. The Gunner form grants a +1,000 Bonus to Attack and the Ultimate forms grants a +1,000 bonus to Defense. Stick with the Genius Wolf for now though.

Alright, I'v got down how to play and how to attack and all that. Now I have one major problem.
When I go into battle, I start off by selecting a normal attack for the first two rounds, and a guard for the 3rd. But as soon as Genius Wolf goes in for an attack, it shows him lunge forward, the cheesy slash mark animation, then before the explosion/hit sound effect can finish, the game shows me an error or something, and shuts off.
It could be a low battery error, though that woiuld really suck granted I just bought this thing a week or two ago.
Did I by any chance set a bad option?

Ack, I used to get that error heaps too... eventually I fixed it though I can't remember how. All I remember is poking the reset button heaps as well as swapping the batteries around though the battery that didn't seem to have any problems in the end was the original which the problem started with...
Try poking the reset button, swaping batteries and such. I don't really know how I fixed mine in the end but it's been working well ever since.
