(thanks Pheno for pointing me to the right place -- this is a repost of the second half of my post from the modelling thread)
I currently own Gustav and Geno Breaker, both of which came with custom pilots (as I am not a follower of the anime, I'm not sure whom they are). It's kind of a shame that Geno Breaker didn't come with the winged little mini guy, but I can live with that -- as I'm sure I can get it from someone, somewhere whose bought a few dozen Geno Breakers from Japan...
Anyways... basic question is this: If I wanted to paint up the dudes in their "proper" and authentic colors, what scheme should I use? And actually, that goes for the standard pilots as well. I dunno if the respective armies have ranking systems in their uniforms that can be ID'ed by color, but it would be kind of cool to be accurate with the little guys....
Just a project for in the future, once I get used to this whole ink washing thing... This S.C. Acryrillic Black from Polly Scale (testors) seems to be doing the job, but it's so hard to clean the piece and not pick up the panel line paint....
------
Also, while I'm thinking of it: How hard is it to come up with 1/72 scale items, especially extra guys? These are war machines, after all.. and I'd love to do dioramas someday.

Gustav comes with Moonbay, plus Van, Fiona, and Zeek. Maybe Irvine as well.
Geno Breaker comes with Raven.
For painting up the generic pilots, I'd look at the web comics. Although some of them are a bit questionable..., and some look more like they would be dress uniforms, not suited for fighting in them...

*edit- sorry, I screwed up the quote-thingy,but still a quote*
Not sure if they are close enough to use though, I don't think pilots would fit, but ground troops should be close enough. I believe Pheno used some on the Demantis diorama.

I'm well aware of scaling -- I own a couple 1/100 and 1/144 scale Gundams (even did a bit of comparison scaling to see how Zoids and Gundams would "stack up" if they ever made 1/72 scale Gundams), and of course my alternators are 1/24th (for the moment -- rumors of jets would have to be smaller scale) and my Mechwarrior figs are N scale, which I think is around 1/300 (or meebe that is Z scale.. my memory for MW is fading without a play group). My quesiton was more along the lines of how hard it is to find little army men in the 1/72 scale, as the prospect of buying endless SS Zoids to get the individual guys is silly. =P BTW: Thanks to all those who have helped -- I'm gonna go do some research now.. as well as try to figure out where to get that shadow fig. I think I'm gonna hit up Cartoon Network to begin... I'm still puzzled over whether or not Raven's a man or woman, but that's not too big a deal.... I'm more worried 'bout how to get Raven to sit properly in Geno Breaker. Athenor

Raven is a guy.
*watches you get attacked by swarms of Raven fangirls* Oh, dear. Want a pointy stick?
Darn figure never sits properly in the Geno cockpit...

Nothing really sits properly in the Geno cockpits, there isn't enough to *sit* on. On another note, it is possible to find 1/72 scale figures (Pheno did, though I somehow didn't see the kind he bought at the same store earlier ), but it is a major pain in the butt to find any proper vehicles aside from Aircraft in 1/72 scale. Same for buildings, though I know one site that has a few 1/72 scale buildings and accessories.

Time to get a fine fine brush and flat paint. Personal advice, for really really detailed stuff, you could use Games Workshop paints, they were made for miniatures and are a bit easier to work with, but do cost a little more and arent enamels.

If you were to place a 1/72 Zoid pilot next to a 1/72 figure, the Zoid pilot would be noticably smaller. That's one of the odd things about them and probably what master666 was trying to say. Also, whenever you paint them, here's a really nice site with details on painting Zoid figures. www.paintingclinic.com/operations/guestarticles/paintingzoids.htm
