A custom (well, several, technically) I'm starting to plan out is to make several small Chimpanzee-type Zoids inspired by Patlabor. Right now I'm looking through Gundam 1:144 kits, & I think the two Gundam Ashtrays from Seed (Red & Blue) will work. The 1:144 gundam parts will largly be used for the arms, head, part of the torso, and possibly the legs.
I know there's several gurus on the the board, so I figured I'd try to get some advice before purchasing these kits.

If your making chimapnzee types, why not get an Iron Kong and mount a Death Stinger tail to the butt of it?

Use the first Astray kits, those ones suck enough that they deserve to be parts fodder. The new ones asre better, especially the Red Frame, since it's got a really cool looking "Gerbera Straight" Katana

What do chimps have to do with Patlabor?

Patlabor + Zoids = SWAT Chimps
Yeah, I'd probably be using the cheaper ones, considering that there's going to be quite a bit of customising involved, especially with the torso.
Oh, and IK w/ tail? Too big, and I want to do more than one, so not cost effective. And that would be a monkey, not a chimp.
I could order combat knives for 1:44 too, but it'll be cheaper to get them by more creative means.
