Fanially, after 2 years this game comes to America. I rented zoids battle legends at my local blockbuster. I popped it in to play.... What do you think about this game. Graphics and gameplay?

We have too many boards open on this topic. You should ask this on another thread.

Most of the other threads only talk about its release. I'm glad to have a thread devoted to the actual gameplay.
This game is fun, but definitly possesses shortcomings. The graphics are good, but not great. Same for music. Control is difficult but I think I'll get the hang of it as I go along. The hardest part is keeping the Zoid moving after a physical attack. It just sits there for a second or two, leaving it very vulnerable.
Voice acting is horrible. You'll either laugh or cry when you hear Raven's voice. Also, many of the names are miss-spelled.
But the real problem is the imbalance in power between Zoids. Time and again I keep running up against a Zoid that can kill me in two or three strikes, even if I upgrade my Zoid. The logic is very circular. To beat the other Zoid, I need to buy a stronger Zoid with better weapons. To buy weapons, I need to earn money. To earn money, I have to defeat the other Zoid.
I've yet to find a way around this problem. Odds are I just need to improve my piloting skills, but that's not easy.

I hate how the Zoids control like you're driving a late 70's Oldsmobile.

I have it. The voices sound different, and some of the things the characters say are different. READ THE MANUAL! I'll check it out more tomorrow.

So which Vs is it, 1 or 2? VS 2. I wish they had released Zoids Versus and Zoids Saga 1 first, because both of the current US releases refer back to their predacessors. If these games do well, think we might get to see a prequel?

I hope not! Zoids Vs I stinks in nearly every way compared to the sequel! The only things I prefer in Zoids Vs I are that the game is a little faster and you can play as a red Berserk Fury! I like the control scheme in Zoids Vs II - its much more intuitive than Zoids Vs I. I just hope the fix the problem running Zoid encounter when going down hill in ZVIII.

i thought this game is fun but it's controls are tough, i hate the no controlled backing up, it took meeh forever to get over that one wall with the proto sabre, trying to precision jump with no reverse except that reverse hop with the right joystick

If you use the booster you can jump further. This applies to jumping backwards. Use the boosters to slow down mid-air!

Speaking of boosters, I think I've found a good (albeit cheap) way to win Zoids battles. I discovered this while trying to battle Harry and Mary Champ, whose Dark Horn and Iron Kong completely outclassed my team in strength and firepower.
Buy a Sinker or Space Sinker, and equip it with a speed booster and heavy torpedoes. During the battle, you simply approach the Zoid head on and fire a round of torpedoes. Some might detonate on the ground, but the other of the pair will hit home. Then activate your booster and speed past the enemy until you are a safe distance away, then turn around and repeat the straffing. Keep this up and even the heaviest Zoid will fall and you should avoid a good deal of damage.

Hey, do what ya gotta. I've gotten as far on the republic side as round 1 with the Bloody Death Saurer - havn't fought that mission yet. So far this game has made me a big fan of the Snipe Master.

Same. It really does shine in certain missions. The mission againist the two Kongs and againist the Bloody Deathsaurer/2 'Phanders is where it's most useful.

Not the last one for the Republic, however. I can't seem to take out a batch of 4 Helcats, even via sniping.
