Altilia didn't lie, for as soon as the newly instated Hound Soldier Imperial Gatling Custom was operational, Demitri was assigned to Colonel Dressnad's field unit, the War Queens. While he felt a bit silly responding to their callsign, Lieutenant Shade was relieved to remain under the command of his instructor. He did wonder, though, if she might have had a hand in that decision.
During his initial test run, Demitri proved what he said about his skills. The Hound Soldier was old, stubborn, and very stiff, making it even more difficult on Lieutenant Shade's limited ability to maneuver around the test course.
“You do realize, Lieutenant, that your performance is being recorded.” Colonel Dressnad was trying to guide him over the radio, wanting him to score very highly on his rating.
“I'm trying, Colonel, but this old dog is hard to handle!” Demitri's response was almost perfectly emphasized by a t-slide into one of the empty zoid corrals. The base they were stationed at was much larger than the current crew needed, leaving well over half of it unused. Always looking for an edge, Altilia made part of the excess base into an obstacle course for the Queens, keeping them in top shape during their downtime, which was often. The War Queens were rarely deployed, partially due to the base's commanding officer thinking they 'had no place on the field of war.' Also due to the sheer danger involved to everyone on the battlefield when the Rozza sisters got out.
“Come on, cloud, you can do better than that!” Sakura Rozza chimed in, rooting for Demitri from her Cannon Spider. The Rozza sisters, or as they're better known, the bloody rose twins, were traveling bandits. They'd move about the countryside, violently attacking anything that looked important or valuable. No one is sure exactly where they come from, or why they joined the Imperial army, but it is very well known that when the bloody roses enter a fight, everybody else needs to get out. The Rozza sisters attacked everybody else, except each other or Altilia, who managed to win their favor in a bar bet.
“Put some heart into it, cloud! Anyone that can get inta ole Dreesie's knickers should be able ta handle that old zoid!” Nissiel shouted from her Rev Raptor.
“Captain!” Altilia was bright red, rather embarrassed by that statement. “You know very well that those rumors are totally unfounded!”
“Don't make ya any less hot for 'im, does it?” Sakura snickered out.
“That's it! Lieutenant, you run's over. Dock Hound Soldier and report back to our barracks. We need to debrief.” Altilia was about ready to explode on the Rozza twins, who were laughing at her last line.
“Yes m'am.” Demitri had been smacking storage containers around with the Cross Sworders by this point, sick of sliding into them.
Colonel Dressnad sighed, glancing over her report. She did her best to make Demitri's performance sound impressive, though all her could really accomplish was charging forward at top speed with Cross Sworders extended. In most situations, that would be fine. Sakura's Cannon Spider and Nissiel's custom Rev Raptor would thin the opposing forces, so she would be available to help Demitri's melee offenses in her Saber Tiger, but there were situations that would involve distance and agility. Demitri could barely hit a target with the Hound Soldier's weaponry, which Altilia was able to blame on the gatling, and despite being able to reach it's top speed in no time, he could not make it turn tightly at all. Altilia sighed again, and delivered her report.
