Chapter 6
James and Eclipse walked through town for a while, stopping occasionally at a store to check out items, or Zoid enhancers. No one seemed to pay much attention to Eclipse, because apparently, Organoids were a common sight around here. After a while of walking around and talking, day was turning into night, and James headed over to a bar.
“I’m going back to the Ray Saurer if that’s ok with you,” Eclipse told James.
“Go ahead, I won’t be much longer,” replied James.
Nonchalantly, James walked into the bar. No one seemed to notice his presence, because everything went on as it had before. Walking up to the bar, he sat down and ordered a drink. Poising himself, he listened for gossip, or news of the base’s destruction. He listened in to a nearby conversation.
“From what I’ve heard, there was only one survivor of the attack,” said a man nearby.
Naturally, it’s me, thought James.
“And I’ve heard that she’s in town, not too far from here.”
“HER?”
James was now standing up. He had just yelled out his thoughts, and had attracted attention to himself. The man, looking weary, spoke in a slow and calm voice.
“Yes, she was in the hospital for a few hours, more out of shock than of injury. She was the only apparent survivor of the attack on the base, made by those bandits.”
“Do you happen to know what her name was?” James spoke in an anxious, hopeful tone.
“Corporal Stephanie Moniz, of the Tagart Base”
James thoughts were running wild. Stephanie was alive? How had she survived the Ray-Absorbing Charged Particle Cannon? Then it came to him in a flash!
“Do you know where she’s staying, kind sir?” James asked.
“Over in the BLOX Arms Apartments, or at least, that’s what the newspaper said.”
“Thank you”
James paid for the drink, and was about to leave, when a disturbed-looking man burst into the room. He almost yelled what he had to say, and really stunned James.
“BANDITS, AT THE ARMORY! HELP QUICKLY!”
“What? Bandits? What did they look like?” asked James
“ Ice…Dragon…Clan” were the man’s last words before he collapsed of exhaustion.
Immediately, the bar broke into panic. James thought this might be his chance to get back at the Gairyuki. If these were the same bandits as the ones that attacked the base, this might be his chance to hurt them. Quickly, he ran out of the bar. Stephanie could wait. James wanted revenge, and he wanted it badly. Arriving at the hangar, he noticed Eclipse sitting there and waiting for him.
“What’s the matter James? Is something wrong?” Eclipse asked.
“Quick! Fuze with the Ray Saurer, we’re going for a hunt!”
“All right, some exercise!”
Quickly, James jumped up into the Ray Saurer’s cockpit, just as the flash of light hit the Zoids chest. The hangar door opened, and out dashed the Ray Saurer. In the dark of the night, James could make out the flashes of projectiles and the sounds of destruction.
“There they are, now it’s time to get them.”
It took James little, if any time to reach the destination. The Ray Saurer’s speed, enhanced by Eclipse’s boost, made the Zoid travel VERY fast, for a land Zoid. Upon arrival, he stayed hidden from the Zoids, both enemy and ally. He studied the situation. From what he could see, the police forces had brought in a Gojulas, three Saberlions, two Demantis’ and two Grounchar’s.
The bandits, however, seemed to have a Zoid unknown to James. In a number just exceeding a dozen, the Zoid they piloted seemed to be a bizarre mix of parts. From what James could make out, their frame was that of a medium sized quadruped. They had Dinosaur legs and arms, and on the right shoulder, an Attack Unit cannon had been mounted, as well as a gunner’s seat, and finally two missiles. On the other shoulder, a small Standard EM Cannon had been mounted. On the Back, there were two boosters, Attack Unit ones. The cockpit was a closed one, mounted at the end of the body. These Zoids seemed to maneuver well, and worked well as a group. Each one was single-handedly taking out an SS Zoid. Then James heard it.
“You, the Ray Saurer pilot, what’s your name.”
The voice was deep and mysterious, kind of cocky. He didn’t know whether it was
enemy or ally, but he had a pretty good idea.
“Cadet James Smith here!”
James wanted to make it known that a military presence was here. Then, all of a sudden, the VD system opened up, and a man’s face, along with an all too familiar.
“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the Cadet whom I met at the base.” said the man. “Charming to know that you’re still alive, all the more fun for me!”
“Oh, and I’m sorry, I don’t think I’ve introduced myself yet!” continued the man. “Damon Storm, leader of the Ice Dragon Clan, so nice to meet you, Cadet Smith!”
“Where are you Damon!?” James yelled. The anger was starting to boil up inside him, like a steaming geyser that was locked inside him. But, he forced himself to stay cool, and strained his senses. Then he heard it. BEHIND HIM!
“ECLIPSE, JUMP!”
Instantly, the Ray Saurer leaped into the air, and the streaming beam of Charged Particles blazed straight through where the armory had been. If James hadn’t had moved, he would have been charred.
“You seem to be better than last time. Let’s see how far we can push this!” Damon said, laughing!
