While New Century Zero is my fav zoid anime, something that always bugged me is why did Bit always complain about the Liger Zero's lack of long range weapons when he CLEARLY had a gun at the end of his tail? Why did he never use it?

I always wondered why nobody ever used the tail weapon.
You can't use it in Versus/Battle Legends, either.
You can use the missile pod on Panzer's tail, though.

*shrugs* Despite the apparently big deal about Strike Laser Claw, no Lightning Saix ever used it AND they were shown to have them in a readout in the series to boot.

Bit wasn't exactly the best pilot (he may be good but that was b/c the script was working for him).

I always thought the tail guns were used as defensive weapons when running away from an enemy. I don't remember seeing the Shield Liger use its tail gun as an offensive weapon as well.

Yeah, it's kinda hard to use a tailgun unless you're running away, and that's not really Bit's style. As to why he didn't use it the few times he ended up fleeing...they'd have to animate it? Nobody thought of doing so? Cheese?
Isn't anime Shieldy missing the tailgun, too?

Van's Shieldy is missing its tailguns, yeah.
Another thing to take into consideration is just how much an animal's tail moves when it's running - particularly a long, sinuous tail like a Liger has. If, as has been suggested, the gun were used to fend off enemies while the Liger was running away, it'd be near impossible to get an accurate bead on any pursuers with the tail lashing and flailing in every direction like it does. All in all, the Liger's tailgun never made much sense to me. o_0

Funny, I always thought the default Shieldy tail was a small gun. The gun that the came in the kit I thought was kinda a--oh by the way--leftover from the parts shared with Saber Tiger. In the Anime that extra gun is Raven's main weapon. When you finish building shieldy there are parts for Saber left on the sprues. I dunno. It's a freebie. I'll slap it on somebody.

Might as well ask why Leena never used her zoids' tail guns. True, both her Dibison and her Gun Sniper LS have a ton of foward-mounted weaponry, but the sniper rifle is far more powerful than any of the other weapons.
I always put it up to her lack of paitence.

I agree with Aardwulf's post. It moves around way too much to aim unless they stop and line the sights up for it. I also agree with Adamassc's post talking about Lenna and not using her Gun Sniper tail gun. I've noticed that neither Bit or that guy from Fuzors (sorry but I'm not a big fan of that Zoids Series) used their AZ 108 mm High-Density Beam Gun. Are you sure it's even functional? It could be just for looks. Yeah, I know, they why would they mount a gun on the tail if it wasnt functional. But as said above, you can't use the gun in any of the video games at all.

Hmm, I read somewhere (don't remeber where) That it was only there for mere looks. It wasnt really a weapon, because it would be near impossible to fire the cannon while on the tail. Becuase of all the movement while running, and what if there were a recoil? The tail wouldnt be able to withstand that. But I also noticed Leena never used the sniper rifle.

That might be true about the recoil, but on its tail it has those larger rods on it. If you're lloking at the tail you see the rods that have sort of 'dashes' in them which are lager. Then you see the 'blank' smaller ones. The recoil could push the smaller on in the big one for the recoil. But the problem I see in that is the length of the tail, it might be too much strain to hold up after firering it even with the recoil unless there are shocks.
The idea I had with Leena's Gun Sniper is that it might be to forward heavy to shoot its tail gun. If it tried to set itself up it might fall over.

Well when it comes to Leena's Gun Sniper, I always simply figured she was never patient enough to stop, anchor down and, uh, AIM at her target.

I thought in the anime she said something about how they had to sacrifice the sniping capability in order to have all the weaponry equipped.

I don't really remember that but it would make sense because all of weapons. They need to be coordinated correctly to function properly (meaning the circuitry needs to be well balanced). She has so many weapons they need to take one off to balance it out, plus they already knew the weight would be an issue for the sniper rifle.
