Tilly, I guess you were right... But lets face it, it was a tad better than New Century's ending. When it comes down to it, zoid's writers are crap at writing endings, but they did make the rest of the series well enough to adopt fans. Nothing is perfect, better make the most of it!

When I think about it, it's just GF and Genesis that irked me ending-wise...unless you count the OER comic not *getting* an ending. My favorite of the anime ones was Fuzors (better plotting leading up to it, only one argh bit in the EL arc's resolution, secondary characters more important in the end fight), and favorite overall is probably the NJR's, 'cause it had great character resolution representing the conflict itself, which to me is more interesting than doom.
CC's was mostly good too - aside from my extreme frustration with one scene I rather liked the confrontation with Prozen/Deathy and resolution to it. Lots of characters got to do stuff there too.

Looking back on it, the Guardian Force ending was... decent. I wasn't horrendous, but it was VERY much faithful to the Liger smite Saurian formula. Which, oddly enough, inspires a festering love for Saurian zoids.
"Dramatic charge! That's not a weapon! Yes it is! ACT OF PLOT SWORD! No!! Common snse! Logic! Physics! All dead! *dies* Woohoo! Everyone is somehow, incredibly happy for no reason!"
Because as we all know, being evil dmages the reality lobe of the brain. Ending the stupidity, the GF ending is better than the New Century ending. By a good bit too, 'cause the BF getting smited by an Act of Plot Claw because Vega bailed is lame.

My ending for the gf would be: Zeek and Van make the final transformation, after a loosing battle van sacrifices himself to defeat the death saurer... My favourite scene is where the Dark Kaiser meet Fiona in the cave to open the gate to the ancient city, the music is so great I wish I have the soundtrack.

too much wasted potential, too much Hiltz exploding crap where there could have been character development and more explanation of Zoids Eve. Another complaint I've often heard about GF is that it's a very poor representation of how militaries really work. But I've never been sure of what that meant. After all, animes like Gundam use similar storylines, but no one seems to care. What makes GF different?

I've never seen Gundam, so I wouldn't know to compare.
The one thing I liked seeing faction-wise in GF was that group of Republican soldiers that ended up killing Nichalo...if they'd done more to show the good and bad of both sides and had them merging as rough and full of uneasy truces and characterstuff I'd have been happier, same with if they'd gone flat out half-serious superhero show.

For me, Zoids Chaotic Century is one of those Anime Titles that I can pop in the DVD Player and watch over and over again. I think it has great music, memorable characters, and features a lot of my Zoids collection in action. This is one of those Anime Titles that appeals to the Kid in me and, for a change, I can watch the Good Guys fight for the Greater Good. Now, Chaotic Century hasn't changed my life, but it does put a smile on my face every time I watch it. So is Chaotic Century worth watching? It depends on you. I can only say this: I paid about $14 retail for each of the CC/GF and Zero DVDs when they were first released and I've never regretted it. For me, I can't put a price on a little sappy happiness in this crazy world. See: Your mileage may vary, though. ;D Edit: Oops. I forgot to mention that I have always considered Guardian Force to be part of the Chaotic Century Universe. Sorry if I confused anyone.

Its very enjoyable in a super robot kind of way, CC just has better story & character development. But I still love GF, very fun.

(edit) Back on topic: the GF ending rocks. I don't care for any of the filler episodes (except maybe Phantom), though, and it seems like there are a lot more of them. The last 10 or so episodes of GF are excellent. Hiltz adds a lot; he's a really cool villain.

I love CC/GF's soundtrack too...but I really can't stand Hiltz. He's just...argh. Way too "wait to do my evil things so the heros and plot can do their thing". Though that's part the writers...they did the same wait forever for backstory thing with Raven.
I like more to my villains (and heroes) than "mysterious past" and nothing else...and I hate the cram all the exposition about them near the end of the plot or in one flashback trick. Let their background slowly unfold, not get stuck in the middle of the action!
(and yes, this rant applies to Guylos too - much as I like how they handled his "ha ha, I'm actually manipulating things SURPRISE BETRAYAL", I want more info on him, dammit >_>.)

But that's what I like about him, you get the impression that the other villains are just pawns, and that he's just having fun toying with the good guys. Plus he concocts some seriously cool plans to eliminate the heroes, like setting Van up on the Whale King ("The Zoid Hunters") and planning to destroy the Madam President ("The Black Lightning"). I find his toying-with-you attitude infinitely entertaining, adding some spice to the otherwise dull Guardian Force.

Chaotic Century and GF ran a long time compared to the other Zoid animes. I'm not so sure that GF underwent budget cuts that brought it up short of the intended mark. I think that's why it 'hurries up' too much at the end.
As far as Hiltz is concerned, he's a pilot for the Death Stinger, and the necessary plot device to keep the heroes, eh . . . hero-ing. I don't really care to know too much about him.
I LUV the GF Ending. If Van is the 'ultimate Zoid Pilot' then he should be able to do some really over-the-top stunt at the end. That's what makes it such fun BS to begin with. It's light entertainment.
but then again . . . I LOVED Nadesico . . . I mean LOVED it!

Interesting, I never thought about budget cuts. Though I think that they had just reached a point where the villains were introducted and the characters were finally developed enough for them to get moving with the actual plot. I always thought of GF as 20 episodes of filler and about 12 or so episodes of actual plot. And the ending, of course, was awesome.
I remember Nadesco from Toonami's Giant Robot Week. I liked it and always wished they had kept it on the block, especially with their lineup as it is now (most of which I don't care for).

Who knows? It's all speculation.
It could also be that Tomy didn't like where GF was heading with the whole Fiona and Zoid Eve thing. Tomy has been rather . . . hazy about the origin of Zoids. They bounce back and forth between natural evolution, Zoidian creations and Military Designs. The storyline of GF seems to have been heading for a final resolve to the questions, but this is all speculation.
However, when you watch the next series, Zero, the story is setup to completely sidestep the whole issue regarding the origins of Zoids. Perhaps that is what Tomy wanted with Zero; more stagetime on Zoids and less on characters and story. While I thought Zero was very funny and entertaining, I still prefer the world of CC/GF. Zoids seem more alive there to me.
