This may sound a little wierd, but I just have to ask. How do Zoids reproduce? And if you say, "Well, when a mommy Zoid and a Daddy Zoid love eachother very much, they decide too---" then I am kicking you in the face. Does anybody know?

In a nutshell the procedure is as follows: 1) The core of an already existing zoid splits up into several smaller pieces. 2) The pieces need to be submerged in water and upon being submerged absorb the soluble metal ions so as to sustain themselves and to start their growth. 3) The core begins to build upon itself, creating a body of sorts with which it can actually move. 4) When the body has matured and developed enough, the zoid leaves the water (unless it's an aquatic zoid in which case it obviously stays) and continues with it's life. The average zoid has a lifespan of around 50 years or so at which point it divides and the cycle continues.
Something else to note is that zoids require metal ions to sustain themselves and the very environment of Zi seems to be well saturated with them though the herbivorous zoids are capable of taking in metal ions from plant life whilst the carnivorous zoids are unable to and are hence forced to feed off other zoids to get their metal ion fix.

The Zoid dies in this process, too...so they wouldn't have a concept of parents. They also have no gender, so they're all its. Calling a living critter "it" sounds a bit odd, hence Bit using "he" for the Zero in the dub anime (the way Japanese works it was a non-issue to the original). I imagine Zoids could attempt to understand the concept of gender from interacting with people, and I could definitely see more intelligent ones getting an evil sense of humor regarding their pilots'...interactions with others :p.
Zoidians don't divide and would do as humans do, but if anyone tries to cross them with humans and produce viable and fertile hybrids just because they look alike, I will do something horrible to them.

Wouldn't it be kinda creepy for giant metal wolves or cats humping eachother and having litters of tiny metal pups? Then there'd be all the cruddy plot involved and the poachers, rare young zoids, unique babies, mutants, etc.

This topic is from 2006 . But there *are* rare wild Zoids, and I seem to remember something about Zenebas hunting when he was younger. Whether that was Zoids and/or whether I'm going loony is another matter...

Yeh it's an old post, but I wasn't here back then, and I gotta get post numbers up. Might as well make a post in anything that catches my eye... Either way, the old topics outweigh the new :P

Nope. Reviving old topics is frowned upon here. That's what Tilly was getting at. Nothing wrong with trying to up your post count, but disregarding forum guidelines could get you in some hot water

not only do i want to know about reproduction but how did zoids started and i don't mean the animator thought of it and drew it. Like who was the first zoid (adam and eve) how is it that they become a zoid. say like the molgras in chaotic century, the small size molgas that chased van and irvine, are they like baby molgas? if zoids are living machines, can heal themselves, able to understand human emotions------ aaaahhhhhhhhhh i am so confused.
hhaaaaaaaa i just love zoids, but pissed cause i still can't see all of genesis, at least for now.
by the way, IF they were to make another zoids series, they should name it zoids evolution.

Zoids Eve was a random anime thing, the actual critters evolved like regular lifeforms and pretty much act as such. The ones used in combat are more "steal core and stuff, stick in mecha", it's the wild ones that bud as mentioned above.
And Zoids - even the mecha ones - can at least pick up on human(oid) emotions and respond to, say, strong excitement or anger, but complex understanding...well, we're not sure about that with animals here either.

that makes me think of a store on zi, called "core mart", where they have bins and bins of zoid cores of all sizes. You can order 'kits', and after they arebuilt, you can stick in the core and watch it come to life! XD LOL
