Recently I was watching a History Channel Documentary on old-western U.S. Marshals. It just so happens that there actually were three old guys who enforced the law, and were known as "The Three Guardsmen." I was blown away. Did the writers of the Zoids cartoon get their idea of the "Three Guards" episode from these old-western guys? That would be quite a kick if they did. I wonder what other ideas were used in the cartoons based off of old heroes.

Wouldn't surprise me, most of Mobile Suit Gundam has overtones of WW2 in it

it wouldn't hurt to interpret or inculcate something from a real life to an anime... we often see this in anime - episodes rooted in real life - we're just sometimes unaware of them... and isn't it a standard for a plot for most anime that someone wants to rule the world (much like hitler) then a hero comes... anime is an art reflicting life sometimes, we just have to decifer it -ghe
