Pulled the Gairy back out today and finished the wrist armor. I kinda like how heavy they look. Since the fury’s arms are so useless, I’m imagining them being used to carry extra shield generators, or batteries or vents for the ra-cpc

That does look good! I can just imagine someone thinks they can foil the ray-absorbing CPC by not firing anything for it to absorb, and it turns out it brought batteries!

New update (but not much has changed in the last 5 months!) Firstly, I went home and had a chance to leaf through the last remnants of my old Zoids collection - most of it was thrown away while I was in Peace Corps, though I don't blame my parents. My collection has been a pile of scrap since about 2012, after the shelf it was on collapsed. The remaining three are pictured here, and I'll probably use them for scrap. 1. Dark Spiner custom that I had given a vaguely aquatic armament. I think I made this when I was 15 or 16, sometime around 2006. 2. Whale type custom, using Gunblaster, Heavy Rhimos, Hammerhead and Fire Phoenix parts (plus some Beast Wars Optimal Optimus plates). I entered this into a contest here on Pheno's forums, and it even got a few votes. I've lost all photos of it, so I honestly don't even remember what the vast majority of the changes I made looked like. 3. Energy Liger custom, was supposed to be a polar bear or Grizzly Bear, but idk what I was thinking painting it white in that case. The guns I had on this thing were E-liger guns with gun blaster barrels on them. It was my first attempt to ball-joint-ify a Zoid, and it worked alright, though the bionicle joints I used lost a bit of their strength, and I was a novice at anchoring the pieces in a way that they wouldn't snap off if I applied too much torque to posing the Zoid. Anyways, some fond memories were brought back up from the abyss while looking at these guys. Back to HMM Gairyuki: I took the Hammerhead tail I gave originally to the Spiner and put it on my Gairyuki. I feel like it works really well. I want this Gairyuki to look like it's prepared to fight in just about any environment imaginable. I tried my hand at scribing for the first time. I'll probably fill in that bottom line. The top one works okay. I bought a bunch of MSG Heavy Weapon sets that I plan to use with the Gairyuki. We've got wings: and the boosters and claw pieces will combine to form two squid type unmanned zoids (ala the horseshoe crab and swallow blox) that are primarily designed to plummet from the heavens (or make a line drive) and crash into enemy zoids, only to use them as sources of energy while they shoot at stuff. Seems fun and effective! You can see the same squid thing standing up underneath the wing in the pic above. I've made some substantial changes to the "vest" armor on the Gairyuki, but I haven't taken pictures of it. The armor now kind of "wraps" or folds forward to cover the chest plate and core, for extra plating. I'm also thinking of priming a few pieces of the Gairyuki tomorrow, so I can work on the imperfections in the armor. I want to paint the frame so that I can install the LEDs, but the order of operations here's seems so daunting!

Painted the thigh and head armor with primer, just to test the primer.

Looking so sharp as the colors start bringing it all together! I'm still crawling painfully forward on my WIP, but I promise that I WILL get this sucker done!

Holy Cow! That has got to be heavy af.
I love the pictures I've seen on Facebook of the build so far, but this is the first time I'm seeing the head. The use of the BF armor on the jaw is really nice, really gives it a dragon-y look with fairly minimal change. The armor piece that sits above the eyes kind of stands out to me - I'm interested to see how it looks once painted. Either way, you nailed the look. The changes you've made look very natural.
My wallet cries tears of envy at just the thought of having a Sturm Tyrann and two sets of Genos to kit bash! I really can't wait to see how this progresses, and it should be no surprise that I've kind of been telling myself that for the last year or so as I watched your Facebook page!

This is a pricy kitbash, I promise you that! TWO Genos and TWO Sturms (and a Wing Gundam) have given their lives for this beast. I am right now working on how to reinforce the joints while retaining both articulation and aesthetics... a tough call! My client has stated that he is more concerned with its ability to hold cool poses than to be free of one or more stands (there are Gundam models that require a stand for each weapon, but I would like to avoid that if I can!)

Also I love those old ones, they look amazing. I can't believe your stuff got thrown away like that...

Also I love those old ones, they look amazing. I can't believe your stuff got thrown away like that... Thanks. The truth is that at about the time I was graduating high school in 2009, my shelf in my room that held all my old customs (all my zoids had been customized by that point) collapsed. My Genobreaker, the Darkspiner (pictured), the Whale (pictured), the E-Liger Bear (pictured), my Berserk Fury (my first custom, painted navy and gold), and my Konig Wolf (entered into a contest here, painted gray and yellow/green) were mostly destroyed, and I put them into different boxes. The Whale, Bear and Spiner were spared the trash because they were put in my gunpla box, unintentionally. The others were added to my scrap zoids box, which also included (at the time) an unfinished racing Saix custom, and a redo of my Gairyuki, which I was adding bionic joints to. The scrap zoids box was thrown away, and it's my fault - my parents asked me, which I was in peace corps, years later, whether or not I wanted it, and I told them I was unlikely to return to that stuff, so they got rid of it. Oh well! I really only lament the fact that I lost a lot of good scrap pieces that I could be using today.
