Diorama Project - Tips and Pointers Please

Ok, I've got this really ambitious idea for a diorama. It's basically going to be a large repair and construction site for Zoids. I know what type of material I'd like to use but I'd like a little input from those with experience in this sort of thing.

What I'm looking at using is parts from Plastruct including trusses, ladders, holding tanks etc. I guess what I'd like to know is if there's anything special I should know about working with styrene and ABS plastics going in so I can plan correctly.
