Overview:
The Gargantulus was one of the earliest Zoid types developed by the Hellic Republic. Capable of incredible speeds, it was very lightly armed and virtually unarmoured. While the design has long since been retired form service, elements of is structure live on in today's Guysack.
This particular Zoid was captured by Captain Sean Willows of the Zenebas army in ZAC 2030, and modified with imperial-standard systems and upgrades. The new Zoid was designated the Tarantulon, to distinguish it form its Hellic counterpart. Impressed by its speed and agility, he made it his own personal Zoid and would use it for a number of years. His skill combined with the Zoid's great speed allowed him to bring down Zoids far larger then his own machine. With the fall of the Zenebas empire, Willows was apparently killed in action, his Zoid destroyed or missing.
Surprisingly enough, the machine resurfaced during the Neo-Zenebas invasion of the Central Continent. Its pilot was a man called Alex Willows, apparently a descendant of the previous pilot of the machine. Further modified with a 70mm beam cannon in place of the grenade launcher to increase its firepower and new legs designed to improve its rough-terrain performance, the Trarantulon Interceptor is designed for high-speed precision strikes against slower machines.
Willows prefers to wait in ambush for his prey to pass, then make high-speed passes at their Zoids form the flanks or behind, and then escape before they can catch him. So far, this tactic has proven to be rather successful, Alex being an accredited ace pilot. Despite being a member of the Neo-Zenebas empire, he has not yet had the chance to modify his Zoid’s markings. The story goes that he’s too fast for anyone to notice anyway.
[FishNotes: The Tarantulon was an OER variant of the OJR Gargantulus that was recoloured in red and silver and had an Imperial-style ‘clamhead’ canopy. This custom was built out of mostly Guysack parts that were re-used from the Gargantulus, with the Guysack’s legs in place of the originals. The Beam cannon replaced the back-mounted grenade launcher as I felt it could use some extra weaponry]
