I think the grime might have been oil or lubricant or what not to keep the gears and stuff turning nicely, which is why you now hear a grinding noise.

Ah, that may explain it. I had only removed the real gloops of the stuff, rather than scour all of it off, because at the time I had thought it was strange that oil should end up unintentionally in a motor, and didn't want to damage it in case you had proved to be true... In any case, the oil hadn't been the problem in the end. I replaced my second, untouched motor into my Gojulas rather than use the grinding one. Hmm, but I wonder what is making the motor too weak to sustain the weight of the metal head-piece? The batteries are brand new, I just replaced them, and after looking inside the motor, there really didn't seem to be any major problems...

I've taken the motor of my pegasus apart before, and yes that "grime" is oil..remeber to wash your hands..b/c I didn't and well..lets just say I had a bad taste in my mouth...
Are your batteries new? My Gunblaster had old battries in it and he barley made an attempt to walk. But when I replaced them he was fine. It's either that or the head is just too heavy. Is there a weight or something in the head? I only have Giggles so I wouldn't know.

I know this may sound a little, well... patronising but are you sure you have assembled it correctly. I had the same problem with my first Zoidzilla way back in the 80s and it turned out I hadn't lined up the head correctly.
You have to make sure that the small part that comes out of the engine ( it moves from left to right when tuned on) is lined up to the groove in the lower Jaw. If its on either of the sides then it will not move and get stuck on one side.
Just pull his head of and check.
Hope this works for you. Neo

Yes, I see what your are saying, that that may have been the cause of my problem, but I have checked and indeed my Goj. is assembled correctly. When building my second one, I made extra sure that the head was aligned, and it is. Besides, if the head was not aligned correctly, it would not turn when the metal weight is removed.
I think my only solution is to relubricate my older motor(I don't want to tamper with my second one just yet. It's backup.) and have my dad see if he can strengthen the power of the motor, or something. So much work for a little head... But I am a perfectionist...

you could try to find a more powerful motor and replace it, or maybe you could shave a little of the weight to make it lighter
