Hi fellow Zoiders,
I've been thinking. Now that my collection has it's own room and I can finally sift thru 35 years of collecting. I know several of you have this very same issue. What percentage of your collection is built? Out of the over 300+ zoids and zoids items only 75 of them are built. The rest are in huge boxes that the built ones rest upon. I have robostrux era Terrox with so much dust on him from 35 years of being on display in 8 different places I've lived that I was thinking on starting a dirtiest zoid contest. To others that will fit into, and have, some of the display boxes I have that keep thier factory show room new zoid smell. 😆 Anyway I would hazard a guess at around 20% built. I am reluctant to built others until I have both room and a way to protect them from dust. I started looking at shelves that possibly can be modified to help protect my babies. This is the next step in the new room of thier own. A bath for those who need it before getting to a new resting place is also planned. Yes that counts them out of the dirtiest zoids contest aforementioned but still needed. Anyway what's your percentage? What do you do to keep your babies safe from the wicked dust fairy? And any other thoughts, comments and suggestions are welcome!

I would say 100%, but one I actually bought a new one to replace a single lost part so the rest of that one is unbuilt (and I have a new part I got from a nice person here, to add to that kit again someday. but i've got this idea in my head that I'm gonna customize it heavily), and I also have one mistaken duplicate vintage zoid that I wanna sell... but they're all packed up in boxes and will stay there for the forseeable future

While I'd say it's a small overall percentage, my backlog is almost entirely HMMs (10-20), and the thought of how long that backlog will take to finish is rather intimidating. Two Shield Ligers are next on the list. Also got a few from various other series. ZAs, MPZ Saber Tiger (just built Shield Liger, one down!), a variety of custom projects, and a few motorized kits here and there.
Admittedly, I'm one of those dust-enabling heathens who leaves their kits out to collect a blanket of fuzz. Always wanted enclosed display cases (and those tutorial videos on converting cheap $30 walmart book cases are quite tantalizing...) but never quite found the funds for it between the actual collecting bit. Most affordable display cases are quite narrow, which is a deal breaker for me. It's too restrictive on size and how kits are displayed.

Even if the walls were thicker opaque plastic and only the shelves and doors were clear, that would be enough. but I guess we're not a big enough market

I buy a lot of duplicates so I would say only <10% built for me.
What I did realize is that putting them out on a shelf attracts dust. I would never have enough shelf space, so I always though that it's best to store and cycle what is on display.

I feel this with my soul, though I was really proud of myself this past year for getting through Buster Tortoise, Raven Raptor and Shadow Fox. Fox sat on my shelf for YEARS. Im currently 90% of the way through with a ZA Berserk Tyrann. I have been putting off the Schwartz Zaber Fang for a while... You wouldnt happen to have one of those videos would you? Im moving soon and need cheap display cases.

100% Some of them have been built twice. As a kid I made a tactical battle game with my kits and used the actual kits as both models and score cards, blowing them to pieces as a part of the game... so some kits I've build 10-20-or 30 times. Some of my kits have also been REBORN (and Darthed) ... so does that count as multi-building?

Yes! Multi-Building is what made it fun for me with zoids (No Glue Needed). In particular, swapping CPs and then the Fuzors recombination.

More or less all of them. I've got some unbuilt HMMs that I consider to be part of my (absolutely embarrassingly massive) model kit backlog and a tiny handful of MIB 80s models that I bought because the built ones I have on display have some flaw or other, but I don't really collect MIB stuff, I buy most Zoids once and build them.
Oh, and I did buy two of each of the ZWs at first, but eventually I stopped. So those are stacked up in my basement. But my collection's in the hundreds otherwise, so those don't really add up to much either.
