This looks amazing. I find it funny that the Empire Zoid would go be part of the Rebel Alliance.

THIS IS BEAUTIFUL, and kudos for finishing such a big project! I think you really nailed the weathered feel that's so baked into the Star Wars look-- the streaking, the paint chips, so many layers of texture. I especially like the blue shading on the cannon. Very well done!
Also I hadn't heard of the contest, is there a description page or gallery of entries somewhere? I've no plans to participate but would love to see the other works.

Someone on Reddit said the story would obviously have to be that the rebels stole this one from the empire, but tbqh because Gore was a blue Zoid in the OER, I've always thought of Iron Kong as one of the good guys.

It's in a Facebook community called Zoidfans - you'd have to join, though, because it's set to private, and the contest isn't over for another two weeks. There haven't been too many entries so far, but what's been posted has been really great. Lionel's Carnasaurus is also in the contest. Anyway, thanks - I kind of went with this theme because it's really just all the stuff I enjoy doing, so I had a ton of fun. Except with the masking. Especially on the missile launcher. Usually I'll take just about any excuse to get around having to do masking, haha.

UTTERLY gurgeous. I do agree that the aesthetics of rebel and empire really suit the republic and empire better respectively, but this still looks great

Great stuff! I love that it uses what I would call moderate weathering; some customs use very subtle weathering and others go so far to the extreme it looks like the machine would come apart at the seams, but his has a look of strength and wear that denotes it has been in battle for a long time, but it has a lot longer to go. Great theme, and really well executed.

I actually feel like I may have gone a bit overboard with the streaking in some places, but luckily it's mostly at the bottom where I wanted the weathering to be more intense anyway. I always have this problem when I haven't built anything in a while where I forget to keep the weathering restrained. At least this time I remembered to go easy on the chipping.

Awesome job, love the weathering and rusting. Some parts simulate the water running down a length of time too.

From the weathering, insignias and color choices, this has to be the nicest looking Iron Kong I have ever seen. Even if you arent familiar with Star Wars, this is gorgeous and a wonderful standout.

Wish I had this kind of talent for painting! Some of my duplicates would get a treatment. I'm too afraid to even start such endeavors. Great job! Awesome effects! Highly detailed!

Really, though, you've just got to start somewhere. I started taking model kit painting seriously about four years ago and just tried to learn as much as I could from every source I could find, and by that I mostly mean lots of Youtube tutorials. Paint some small stuff first that won't take forever so that you can get things done, and just try something new with every paintjob. I won't give you the BS about how "everything I did here is super easy" because it was a competition build and so this is me operating at 120% with every technique I'm applying, but even doing some basic stuff with your Zoids to spruce them up a bit can be super satisfying.
