Preorder is up on HLJ. It seems to come with quite a bit of extra stuff, but I mostly just ordered one because I built my original HMM Godos way back in the Dark Days of No Painting and this is a good excuse for a do-over. Correction: I ordered two. For some reason I'm really excited about this kit. I mean, obviously because Trooperzoid was one of my faves when I was like 7 years old. I also wanted to make sure I had enough of the old Helic symbol in waterslide form because this means I can now finally do the Zillon repaint with the correct symbol on the cockpit. Why did you preorder two? |

I'm also tempted to buy two just for the extra cockpit. I'm still waiting for the Koto to create a Guysack.

I saw that box art illustrator Mercy Rabbit recently noted some changes on twitter. The heads are different, the weapon is different, and there's a couple people in the new foreground, among other small adjustments. It's kind of fun comparing the new to the old ones, feels like one of those "spot the difference" things. Also this line is the only instance I can think of where re-releases use modified box art. Usually I feel it's either completely the same or all new-- pretty neat. |

That box art is the disappointment of the month for me, the color adjustment is ugly and the new head looks... well, like it was drawn on after the fact, which it was.
Still, though, I have two of these guys on the way from HLJ, but first I'm going to just swipe one of the old Republic emblems for the Zillon colors repaint of the Iguan I've started.

I have a theory of what happened. There were several design of the box art back then, and the kit originally had two heads. Some time later just one head was built so they had to pick the one that matches in the foreground.

I dunno, it just doesn't look very good, and as a big fan of Godos, I just wish they'd gone the extra mile to give the kit some actual new boxart like they did with the others. It's not that big of a deal, though, the fact that they actually made an HMM whitehead cockpit far outweighs any complaints I may have about the boxart. All the others are just recolors of old kits, this one has new parts AND it's something really cool. |
