So I caved in and ordered the entire first wave from AmazonJapan. It was really easy to set-up a standard account (I opted not to set up a new Prime account as the Prime discount was only about 50 Yen off each Zoid, and Prime shipping doesn’t apply to international orders). I made sure that the company delivering was AmazonJapan and not a third party seller.
A point in AmazonJapan’s favor is guaranteeing shipment by 07/16, and has a guaranteed delivery time of 3-6 business days on international shipping or a refund of the shipping; whereas AmiAmi would be 3-7 business days (on average) and HLJ is 4-10 business days guaranteed but no refund from either if it takes longer.
Mainly though, both AmiAmi and HLJ are still sold out, whereas I was able to order and checkout in less than 5 minutes on AmazonJapan.
ZW-01 Wild Liger 2440 JPY (vs 2420 AmiAmi or 2400 HLJ) ZW-02 Gil Raptor 2440 JPY (vs 2420 AmiAmi or 2400 HLJ) ZW-03 Kabtor 970 JPY (vs 960 AmiAmi or 960 HLJ) ZW-04 Scorpear 970 JPY (vs 960 AmiAmi or 960 HLJ) ZW-05 Gannontoise 2440 JPY (vs 2420 AmiAmi or 2400 HLJ) ZW-06 Gabrigator 2440 JPY (vs 2420 AmiAmi or 2400 HLJ) Shipping to CA, USA: 4600 JPY (vs 4780 AmiAmi or 4850 HLJ)
Total: 16300 JPY Amazon vs 16380 JPY AmiAmi vs 16370 JPY HLJ
So paying slightly more for the Zoids, but saving in shipping, leading to Amazon being cheaper by a few cents as well. I was also able to use my AmazonStoreCard from the US, so I’ll receive 5% back on my card statement for the month bringing my total down to 15485 JPY.
I’ll post a follow-up with how the full transaction goes once I receive the kits.

Against my better judgement, I have ordered Gannontoise and Kabtor.
From this first wave, I wouldnt mine owning Wild Liger, Gilraptor, Gabriator, and Kuwaga. Even though I have issues with Wild Liger.
I will pass on Scorpear and Grachiosaurus. Both Zoids seem vastlly inferior to their classic counterparts. I anticipate getting Fang Tiger, and maybe the Anklyosaueus, the Pachycephalosaurus, the stego, Deathrex, the raptors, and the tricerotops.

So it's the quiet before the storm, anime should be starting somewhere today (depending on your time zone) the last 2 Zoids (of the first 14) should hopefully be revealed soon.. So in the meantime.. The reason why I thought this would have been much better than Dish as the intro song: Penguin Research Wild Blue www.bilibili.com/video/av25813004

Another Twitter campaign has been announced, and it's giving people another chance at the Kabtor Rare White! (A rather slim one, though.) During each of the first four episodes, a multiple-choice question will be shown. Tweet the answer with the hashtag #ゾイドワイルド見ようぜ ("Let's watch Zoids Wild") before the episode ends for a chance to win one of 5 white Kabtors per week. You'll also need to be following the official Zoids Wild Twitter accounts (anime_zoidswild and zoids_official), and I suspect it's only for Japanese residents again (although I couldn't find any detailed regulations this time).
Four hours to go!

So! The anime aired, and so many thoughts. It's hard to put it into short words. The Zoid interaction was nice, but it really shined in the opening/ending. I think the ending in particular, was what I've been waiting for, for like 10 years in the Zoids franchise. The episode was quite rushed compared to the comic but I think that's pretty normal. It's hard to fit so many details in when I know they probably want to move right into the main story. There was very little down time, which was nice! I was also surprised that a fair bit more was animated than had to be. A lot of this could've easily been still framed. Sometimes lighting was spot on, sometimes not, but I think we'll see an even better looking refinement on the BD release. The animations were overall decent. Little tiny fang tiger hopping one step at a time down big giant mountain gives me life. I did love the effects on the sliced up raptors. Wasn't super thrilled by another "leap and slash" attack but I know that'll be a lot of it, haha. I was less fussed given the brawling in the opening, so. I also noticed the Pachy got a revamp! I think it was a good choice to make it blue. The team already had 2 green Zoids. I'm not super keen on the new head ornaments, though. I think it was fine before.

But those DM villains are ridiculous though (still deciding if that's a good or bad thing) Did not know the Pachy dude was actually..a dude. As expected I didn't like the opening song and didn't quite understand the reason to pause the Wild Blue song mid charge (as it's long enough and has that build up moment in it as well, to time it with the wild blast. As for Pachy didn't really need the "improvements" because it looks like they slapped it on last minute.. "Headgear" was better before, dark green suited him much better than dark blue and purpleish caps... And instead of more armor they removed even more.. I thought hey he has "arm armor" now. Oh wait they just removed stuff from his back. He does have some more on his feet now. But all in all not better than before.. And Arashi is actually much more hardcore than expected

Maybe I'm easy to please but I loved it, from start to finish. Even the Deathmetal villains are a lot of fun for an enemy. Seeing zoids as living free moving beasts is about as much fun and cool to see as I thought it would be. Looking forward to the next episode definitely.

Any word on a fansub group working on this show? I only understood this episode since it's the same as the manga haha. I liked it. The ending is cute and makes me wish I had a giant metal lion friend.

I think it was fine before. ...What the hell? The renders for the unreleased Zoids in that shot looked fine enough. I gotta say, the colors on this new Pachy look gross in the show. It isn't that blue is a bad choice, but this shade of it looks so muddy and unappealing. The redesigned weapon is not flush with the head, and that kind of sends me. On a seperate, related note, I think this show has a problem with colors and lighting; a lot of them clash, and the lighting is somewhat distracting at times. I will know more once a sub version is out.

Gabrigator came in today! Highly impressed with the quality and presentation. Overall feels like a high end bionicle kit for those that had experience with that. Here’s google translates attempt at the bio at the bottom:
Total length: 10.2 m Overall height: 2.3 m Body weight: 37.6 t Maximum speed: 205 km / h IQ: 72 110 - Demon's crocodile jaws 52 t Surprise attacks inhabiting the river side of the jungle area Nakousuzo I'm good at battlefield, Open your mouth and bit your opponent with a Six Killer Fang of the lower jaw stretching enough to penetrate the upper jaw. Mist Discharger generates special fog while hiding the figure, approaching the enemy, and attacking at once. Depending on the height of hunting ability, you may be attacking by driving enemies with herds. It is specialized in ecology at the waterfront and it is possible to swim and diving. It is believed that mist is generated by taking water into the body from the mouth and legs, or it is injected and converted into driving force in water. , L4 cover
I love this so much for several reasons but the overarching theme is that they are Weaponized robotic ANIMALS and the bio (and anime) stress this. They hunt. They socialize. They’re alive. It’s awesome! Also the Gabrigator May have passed the Tyrann as my favorite Zoid design. It’s grand.
