After seeing Maethius' customs on Zoidspoison an eternity ago, young Pika decided he, too, wanted to make Zoids from scratch. The Dark Prawn is the result of that desire, finally completed after years. I built the head when I was still in high school, but only earlier this year did I acquire the necessary parts to finish the beast.
The idea struck me when I was messing with parts from my old, broken NAR collection. I had been messing with a pair of Berserk Fury ankle armor pieces, and some Bionicle limbs. Drawing in a Raynos chest gun, the spare Ion Booster mount from my HMM Liger Zero, some caps from my Gojulas Giga, and some other Bionicle and Zoids parts, I formed an image of my mind of the head section of one of Earth's earliest predators.
Anomalocaris is an anomalocarid arthropod from the Cambrian Explosion. It's fossilized mandibles were first thought to be strange shrimp when they were first found, independent of the rest of the animal. They dubbed the 2-3 foot arthropod Anomalocaris, meaning quite literally, "strange shrimp".
Assembling the head section and painting it in Tamiya's German Grey, the head laid unfinished for several years. I had known early on that I wanted to use Buster Eagle wings to form the feather-like structures running down the sides of the animal, but I didn't want to disassemble the Buster Eagle that had come with my FZ Buster Fury (even though its cannons had already been donated to my Gojulas Giga).
So I asked Dad to get me a Buster Eagle off ebay for my birthday this year, which gave me most of the parts I needed, but there was one problem: it was missing the Blox cubes, which I kinda needed to make the main body. I solved that by buying a blister of Blox off ebay. The main body finally assembled, I needed to figure out a cockpit, because the Buster Eagle's would not fit. Thankfully, my HMM Command Wolf Brad came with the original Command Wold weapon, which included a cockpit. I was never going to use anything but the Attack Unit, realistically, maybe the Irvine Rifle occasionally, so I snagged that and painted it.
I am very proud of the results.

Comparison With Hammerhead
Sets Used:
Zoids: HMM Liger Zero, Raynos, Gojulas Giga, Buster Eagle, HMM Command Wold LC & AC Brad, Berserk Fury, Blox Blister
Other: Assorted Bionicle bits
I'm still trying to think up some lore for it, heheh. I named it Dark Prawn for lack of a better name and because it sounded kinda cool, even if Anomalocaris is technically not really a shrimp. I wish I had thought of the name before, because it might have been cool to make it a Dark Zoid, but the Dark Spiner has Dark in its name without being one, so I'm okay with the grey in the end. He turned out bigger than expected, to be honest, but it was fun bringing this rather unique animal to life as a Zoid. I have other custom ideas brewing in my head, namely an Alamosaurus based off of a Sesimosaurus, and an Indominus rex with a Giga as a base.
