Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the best games I've ever played, maybe even the best one. The gameplay is excellent. The combat is fluid, natural, and incredibly satisfying. The story and characters are very well developed. It's the first game I've played where I genuinely cared about the story. Most games tend to have a half-baked story which feels tacked on. HZD's story is deep, layered, and engaging.
As for the comparisons to Zoids, I don't feel like there are any beyond the most superficial (robot animals). HZD does such an excellent job of setting up its own universe that you won't be thinking about Zoids when you're playing it (or at least I wasn't).

That's really great to hear; I was hoping it wasn't all eye candy. Of course I can't play it, but I can DREAM of playing it!

Because I had very limited time with the game, I skipped a lot of the side quests. Most of the ones I did do were simply boring and suffured from the same issues that most RPG games suffer from. but that's a criticism I have of the genre, not the game itself. there were some good ones here and there.
I stayed with the main story for the most part, because that's really why I was playing; why is the world the way it is? If you pay enough attention halfway through, you know the outline of the plot before it is revealed to you. But the story is beautifully integrated into the events of the game, and getting answers to your questions feels satisfying and they all make sense within context.
The game is apporpriatly difficult to conclude when doing only main quests. I rather enjoyed exploring on my own terms though. I found Cauldron Zeta by accident and had to kill my first thunderjaw there, at level 14! I spent an hour setting up every trap and trip wire in my inventory. It was also my first encounter with stealth enemies and they were scary and fun to engage with.
Side note: Dont get the super armor if you want the game to be challenging. I had the armor strictly for the last level and things got way too easy.
And my only real complaint/nit-pick? Future games for this franchise need better climbing mechanics.

Side note: Dont get the super armor if you want the game to be challenging. I had the armor strictly for the last level and things got way too easy. You can't get the Shield Weaver armor until you complete the 20th quest and there are only 22 quests in the main storyline, so you really can't get it until the end anyways.

Woah... that is bigger than expected! Why is it asking me to make a Gojulas custom out of it?!

What scale is it in?
I can't stop drooling.

What scale is it in? I can't stop drooling. Think it's a typical non-scale artstatue but it's 16 inches from head to tail and the in-game model is supposedly 24 meters long so if you want to do all the fun conversion math there you go. Just eyeballing the beast, I think a 40-42mm miniature might suite this guy if you wanted something human-y to stand near it

When I first told people they were zoid-like they thought it was a coincidence, even after I showed them zoids with just about the exact same aesthetic like the Roadskipper or Deathpion.
Yeah it's a fun game, I've only just started it. The machines are too cute for words.

Just finished this game and loved it. Photo mode has been the end of me now, because any little thing I now try to get cool or hilarious pictures from it.
That Thunderjaw statue… I want it badly!
