For on of my next dioramas I want to have a charged particle beam being charged up and getting ready to fire. I am thinking about using optical fibers to represent particles being drawn in and charged. So two questions.
1) Anyone know where I can get some cheap optical fiber?
2) Anyone have an idea of what might look better?

It's been a while since I've looked into fiber optics, but my last set I had snagged some disco-era plant sculpture and cut all the fibers out of it. More recently I was looking on eBay but you have to be careful exactly what kind and what thickness you are looking for.
As for what looks better, that's a tough call since I don't think I've seen anyone actually sculpt a beam intake in operation. I would suggest for the beam itself using a rod of clear color acrylic, which could also look incredible with fiber optics twisting around it like they were cohering into a big beam.
