I'm a student in a 3D design program, and in my spare time, I have been modeling the Zoid models that I own. I know that finding accurate and available Zoid models is hard, as I've searched for them as well. Anyways, the two Zoids models that I have modeled are Diloforce and Jet Falcon. Since I have put in a minimum of 20 hours into Jet Falcon, and easily over 100 into Diloforce, I do have to charge people for the models. Also, I am available to do render pictures of the two models for people who would like a custom picture; depending on the complexity I may ask for a dollar. The Zoids that I have, and therefore are planning on modeling, are a follows: Saicurtis Heldigunner Leoblaze Shadowfox Barigator Gravity Saurer Soul Tiger Fire Phoenix Liger Zero Death Stinger Bear Fighter Darkhorn I am currently at work on Saicurtis, but who I make next can be influenced by people who may be interested in one of the Zoids on the list. I may also be able to make custom Zoids as well, but anyone who would like one would have to provide incredibly detailed sketches, unless its a custom of one of the Zoids that I have. I have them being listed on Turbosquid.com, and you can pay with paypal if you're interested. Hello!
Actually, it's kind of hard to tell where this topic should go... they are for sale, but they are also fan art. I don't have a problem with them being here, since it could be confusing in the "Zoids for sale" threads. Besides, doing commission art really does need a place to post.
The quality is really great on these! I see you list them as single OBJ files... you might consider making a "set" available; all the component pieces as a separate OBJ so that others can assemble or pose them in almost any program.

I'll be waiting for the liger zero. And if i may, what program did you use? Those models are insane. I tried my hand at 3D modeling and failed epicly. And you know what they say, "If you can't make it, buy it off the internet."

MaethiusI do have them listed as an obj file, but on 3DS MAX 2011, it is actually divided into the different parts, so the models are fully pose-able as based on he toy models, plus some more options that wouldn't be available with the real world equivalent. ligerzilla2014I modeled them in 3DS MAX 2011, and yes, it is hard. I'm going into my third year in university, and I still have a long way to go. As for the Liger Zero, it may take a while before I finish that one. Also, I got lucky at Value Village last week and found a 95% complete darkhorn with the box and instructional booklet, so I'm adding that to the list.

First up - great work!
I understand your reasons, but I'm not a huge fan of the idea of charging people for non-commisioned fan art. Consider the people who fan-subbed Genesis, or Andy's spectacular Zoids games from a couple of years ago - they spent many tens of hours creating quality works, then gave them away freely*. The reward was in the creation and the sharing.
I'm sure there will be plenty of people who agree with selling your models, so please don't take my comments as a major condemnation. I just feel that it would be more appropriate for the fan community to work collectively to create media than sell the means. As long as people were using your models for non-profit purposes, I'd rather see them being disseminated freely.
* Actually Andy's magnum opus was something he charged for, but IIRC it was only a token $10 or so. And he was still asked to desist by the copyright holders.

Frankly, KAndrw, I understand your comparison to subbing Genisis, but I did say in my opening post that people can ask for renders for free, unless they ask for something really complicated and specific. Since most people dont have any idea of what to do with 3d, the most they may want from this would be a few wallpapers, and I can provide those freely.
Besides, the models themselves are part of my portfolio, so you have to understand I cant just give them out freely, in case someone does try to claim false ownership.
Also, the Genisis example is partialy skewed, since anyone with flash player can enjoy that. The models themselves are catering to a limited market.
Anyways, thats my side.

flack41940That's cool. I know sometimes models from 3DS aren't made very break-friendly for other applications; usually they are divided by texture/material, not component parts, so ungrouping them usually leads to quite the mess. I'm glad you thought of doing it by component!
