Hey guys. was pointed here by a friend....
I typically build Transformer customs, but decided about a year ago to do a Voltron Custom. Rather than use the anniv. edition Voltron, someone gave me the great idea to use ZOIDS for the lions.
So, here's my game plan so far. I have (in hand) 3 Ligers which I will use for the blue and yellow lions (which also form Voltron's legs) and the 3th Liger for the chest (black lion) I've removed all the Zoid type rubber plugs and removed all the electronics inside the liger. I then re-articulated (is that even a word) the legs giving them more range and poseability. I've attached some photos of the work in progress for the blue lion. The head/neck is now on ratcheting joint allowing it to click upwards making the head Voltron's foot. The legs fold up and/or back as well. I also installed a small 3mm LED light inside the head (as well as the wiring, power source and on/off switch) The batteries are easily changable too. To allow the yellow light, I carved some clear plastic and put in his eye slits. You'll also notice some other minor changes to the figure (legs moved back, teeth rearranged, etc)

Now, for the black lion (which will form Voltron's chest and upper legs) I intend to use the 3rd Liger I have here. I will use larger ratcheting thighs/hips for his lower legs, which as some of you might know will double as Voltron's upper legs) These legs will also be jointed at the knee and when these legs are foled back, will reveal a snap connection type ratcheting plug/socket to connect to the backside (butt) of the blue lion (see last pic above)
For the arms, I am planning to use 2 Saber Tigers. I payed a small fortune for them (about +/- $100 each) via ebay, but blown away by the design.
My only concern is the size of the EZ-016 Saber Tiger model kit. I cannot for the life of me find online sources of it's measurement or photos with other zoids/figures. One source said they are approx. 11.5" in length, which sounds huuuge, but hoping that measurement includes the tail? So I ask, does anyone have the EZ-016 Saber Tiger AND the Liger and can possibly shoot a pic of the 2 near each other, OR give an accurate measurement of the saber tiger?

It'd awesome to see a combiner that doesn't use any giant Transformer parts like Unicron for once.
