Hi guys, long time no see! I've been working on a new Zoid recently and it's at the stage where it's looking pretty complete. I thought you lot might be interested in some progress pictures. I can't get everything across with these pics, but there's a lot to see here!
It's the Blue Sovereign, registration number ZGC-008. It's the successor to a very old Zoid of mine, the Blue Emperor. It's a huge transport Zoid, dwarfing the likes of a Whale King!
It is capable of surface and underwater sea travel, flight and even spaceflight. It has a long, sleek form but is also heavily armed and armoured.
From the bottom you can see the huge engine cluster.
The engines are better shown here - it has 8 main engines and 10 smaller engines that can swivel down for vertical take-off and landing.
The main guns are huge and are used against big foes like other transports or bases. The front has a launch ramp for aerial fighters and in the middle is a takeoff pad for slower, larger aerial Zoids.
the main bridge is in the dorsal fin tower. it is a two-storey command centre that manages defences, traffic and flying the thing.
You can also see some of the smaller, anti-flying Zoid defences like flak cannons and a missile pod.
The side of the Zoid houses the majority of the living quarters, and also a set of broadside cannons.
I've gone for a slightly more realistic look for the wings, with a whole range of flaps, but they are also segmented to bend and twist.
A close up of the engines. The lower rear doors are shown here - they can open up to either reveal a drop-rack to deploy aerial Zoids in flight, or a dock or ramp for aquatic and land Zoids respectively.
The mouth is another ramp for land and aquatic Zoids (when underwater). You can see the huge doors in the throat that acts like an airlock with the mouth. Above the mouth is a huge sensor array that can easily track Zoids half a continent away!
For a Zoid that carries so many people, it is critical there are facilities for escape. There are 40 of these escape-pod shrimp Zoids aboard, each carrying 11.
Additionally, these are barnacle Zoids! They stick to the outer hull of the Zoid and can move along it. They have a number of robot limbs that can deploy a gun, two welders and manipulators and a rocket-propelled hook. These Zoids help to defend the Sovereign when under attack but can also repair and patch it up on the fly.
This is a size comparison with it's predecessor. As you can see, it's larger, better equipped and better looking! My modelling skills have improved over the years! I've got a bit of modelling left to do, then onto the renders!
