'Ello there, has anyone tried playing Zoids VSIII on an American model Wii? If so, did you encounter any problems? Thanks.

I tried it once and got a disc-read error. the wii is unfortunately region locked for both wii games and GCN games.
hopefully the next gen consoles will get rid of the stupid region lock (looking at you nintendo and microsoft)

Regional lock is on many consoles for several reasons, to prevent bootleg and "gray" market.
So far, the only consoles that have been region-free are the handheld consoles - Gameboy family, DS, and PSP. And considering the future of digital download, I think in the near future there is some chance that JP-only games could come to the US.

The DSi has region lock in some respects, which is an ominous sign for future handhelds to me D:.

DSi is regionlocked for the DSiware shop, but not actual card-based games, from what I understand.

A good proportion of PS3 and Xbox 360 games are region free. Even the original Xbox had region-free as an option - a lot of niche sports games used it to expand their market without having to make a second version.
I think Western publishers are moving more and more away from the idea of region-locking games. As importing games becomes easier and easier, region-locking games actually begins to drive console modification, which in turn leads to decreased sales worldwide.

Your sig is too large—please change it to something not animated (or otherwise under 100kb-ish).

Oh, I know how you can fix your problem! There is a special gamecube disc called a freeloader. It allows you to play japanese games regardless of region. All you do is pop in the Freeloader onto your wii or gamecube. Then, wait until it prompts you to switch the game disks with your foreign game of choice, and then presto: you have access to all kinds of regional games! I have VS III and a freeloader, so you can ask me for more details on how the freeloader works.

Since you guys are saying that Japanese Wii games will not work with an american console, does that mean Full metal crash won't work on my console?

There is a way to play game cube games on the Wii without modding or using homebrew channels. Here is a link to a youtube vid showing how to do it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjS0FA-PwV0
