In a nutshell, while Wii games will generally be region free, the Wii consoles themselves will be locked for GC games AND for some of the downloaded games.
So if you want to play the Zoids GC games, you've only got the three options:
* Japanese GC : plays perfectly, but won't play other region games.
* Any region GC + Freeloader : plays mostly fine, but any games using the console's text renderer (ie most of VS3 and the save/load screens of Full Metal Crash) will have garbled text. However, you *may* be able to have both US and JP saves on the same memory card.
* US GC w/ region switch : a simple bit of soldering, and the games play perfectly, even the console rendered text. However, you *definitely* need to keep your JP saves on a different memory card to the US/Pal saves.
(Hmmm, I wonder what happens if you use a freeloader to run US games on a japanese GC - i assume that the system renderer in the jp console does have english text... Anybody?)
