If memory serves me right, Rez Tiger was the second-release Zoid set for Dengeki Hobby Magazine. Being a red-and-black kind of guy and seeing the blade/sheath combination, I couldn't pass up owning one of these. Building it was easy enough because I remembered how I built Whitz Wolf and Savinga almost five months ago. Unlike Whitz Tiger, however, I like keeping Rez Tiger in its seperate constituents. Speaking of which:
Savinga with the Momonga head:
Savinga with the Musasabi head, which I prefer (which is a first considering that on my original and Rocke's cheese Savinga, I prefer the Momonga head) because dark grey goes so much better with the orange transparent parts than the red ever will:
Rez Wolf:
From the side:
When you assemble the cannon/sword combination, you normally take away one of the Savinga's wing attachments and therefore leave the poor mecha flying squirrel clipped and grounded. However, with this combination, the Savinga stays in one piece and Rezer Ramon (forgive me; I've been watching Hard Gay lately X3)'s left cannon isn't angled out of position to accommodate the blade. Unfortunately, this may not work with Rez Tiger since the blade mechanism only extends so far (and with the blade 'pointing' the right way):
Rez Tiger (no pictures yet, although everyone should know what a Rez Tiger looks like by now, right?):
It looked so good on the box, but once you construct it, Rez Tiger seems to be fighting a losing battle against physics; the left side droops under the combined weight of the cannon, Savinga wing/blades and sword/sheath and the pegs holding the pieces together don't support it very well. In Whitz Tiger form, without the blade, it all works fine though.
More about the blade and sheath:
I think I read in a couple of places that people have had problems with having the blade in the Zoid's mouth and having it turned on at the same time (because if positioned wrongly, the Zoid 'locks up' and won't move). My solution (I've only tried this on Rez Wolf, but it shouldn't be that much different with a Rez Tiger) is to, before turning the Zoid on, position the cannons so that the left cannon is as far back as it can possibly go before positioning the blade in the mouth (as demonstrated in the last picture). That way, the blade can freely move with the Zoid walks (mind you, it looks a little silly when the blade moves out of the mouth X3).
Pros:
- New sprue for an awesome weapon.
- Funky red is funky.
- A nice set of stickers, which also includes Liger Blue Souga's kanji characters and scar.
Cons:
- Not the best-executed design; the conventional/original cannon and sword combination doesn't stay together and sags under the weight, especially when moving in Rez Tiger mode.
- (this is just a personal gripe) Wouldn't a different coloured set of rubber caps to contrast with the red armour work better (maybe dark grey/black like Savinga's blades or dark purple like Whitz Wolf's caps)?
Overall:
For all its funky redness and extra bladey goodness, Rez Tiger doesn't have physics on its side. However, should you find one at a good price, this is a worthy addition to anyone's collection.
4/5 (loses one point for fail from physics)
