Well, since no-one else is doing it, I guess I'll post a review for the Whitehead Set II. Or at least a part of it. I recently got hold of an OER Cosmozoid, so how do the two compare ?
Here's the Cosmo-Box:
and the Cosmo-bits:
Glad to say nothing broken or aged too much.
Two minutes later:
Robert's your Mother's Brother !
The pretender to the throne:
Three minutes later:
Cosmo on the left, re-issue Peggy on the right.
The first thing I noticed was the colours. Cosmo is a bit more vibrant then re-issue Peggy. The new shade of blue is not glossy navy but a matt blue/grey. The orange is less intense, and the grey is paler too.
You can also see the changes on the stickers. The red stripes are also wider on Peggy's wings, and this is also true on the Helic Symbol:
There is also a gap between the top and bottom of the head, not sure if this is mold degredation or maybe I was just unlucky. There has been some re-working done on the blue frame. The centre of the wheel is slightly larger, and the details more crisp. On the back of the wheel, the circular hole has been replaced with a hexagonal hole. All the blue parts seem slightly bigger/thicker and they fit together more tightly than on Cosmo.
Lastly, though both come with gold chrome pilots, Peggy's guy has a smaller helmet and is a bit paler:
Overall, a very nice re-production. The only let down is the new stickers, which are more clunky than the original.
I HATED Cosmo when he first came out, decades ago. He was the Fugly Chicken Zoid. But over the years, I grown to appreciate the weird design. So if anyone out there doesn't want their re-issue peggy - let me know ! I want a folck of these babies ...
