I acquired my shiny kitty trio two days ago, and since I have no patience whatsoever I stripped down my Phoenix CAS Zero for some yummy Jager bling action.
Starting off, here's a sprue with the familiar shoulder armour:
..and a little zoom on the one piece there:
They're so reflective a lady could prolly pluck her eyebrows in 'em. The surface has a slight texture if you get up close, but from a foot away it looks smooth. However, an interesting thing happens when you cut the bits off the sprue - the plastic is white underneath. I shaved some chrome off the B tree runner, and it's some kind of milky-white stuff. The Schneider seems to have alternating yellow & grey sprues (and I'm not sure what Panzer is, since he's still in the box). I guess Tomy had to cast these specifically for Leoshop dude?
At first you'd think 'crap! this white plastic buisness is gonna look terrible once I'm done', but after a few minutes of scouring through my paintbox I discovered it's actually a blessing to not have coloured plastic - you can dab clear paint over the trim marks with no primer and it looks near-invisible.
Case in point:
I used some testors acrylic teal clear (#4664). It seems to go on just peachy with two coats of lil brush dabs.
I didn't have to do much shaving on this guy to make parts fit - just the plug part of the bits that clip together (jetpack halves, back ankle armour, shoulder v-rudders, rotating backpack joints & cheek intakes). Schenider is ten times more of a pain in the ass.
Also, I thought the red caps look a bit silly so I swapped them out for some spare white & black ones:
For a while I was thinking of painting some trim for a two tone, but after changing the caps I decided I'm actually quite content with how it is. I think it's now my favourtie Zoid in my collection.
Sooo.. overall I give it ten million out of ten. But, I might be biased with teal being my favourite colour, jager being my favourite zoid, and having a fondness for shiny things ;D.
