I doubt anyone has done a review on this critter but here's one just for this special fella:
It has the basic Command Wolf structure, so building is a breeze if you've done more than one Command Wolf variant. There's 4 sprues, of which 2 are in translucent black, one in a dark grey tone and the last is in flat red. Comes with the standard 2 pilots in blue, a sticker sheet, instructions and 2 rubber sprues holding 12 rubber caps molded in flat black plus the metal gear to control the speed when the neck is put down and of course, the main windup motor.
The good thing about the translucent parts is that they're not as brittle as I thought they would be. Trimming is easy with an Xacto knife and every part fits nicely, unlike some issues I've had to contend with when I built the Blue Command Wolf. That critter's chest piece didn't fit on nicely even though it was well-trimmed.
Anyway, the good thing about this Wolf is that the translucent parts are pretty nifty and covers much of the CW's body. The ratio is pretty good in terms of translucent black : flat red parts and the clear red canopy is a cool addition.
The bad thing is the flat red parts do look a little fugly and a part swap with black parts from the regular NJR Command Wolf in place of the flat red pieces would make it look nicer. Refer to Hi Docker's website for pics of his smeatified Command Wolf HT in tasteful all-black tones minus the orange canopy. ;D
I wonder how it'll look like with CP-04 attached. I bet it'll look really cool. Since I've got a number of unbuilt CP-04s, maybe I'll pimp him up a little.
The end result, even with the allegedly fugly red parts is absolute beauty. I love this variant alot and it is my good fortune to have one in my collection. If you can find one for a sane price, go ahead and just grab it. Given that it's a Japan-only release, its pretty hard to come by at times so don't hesitate whenever you find one up for grabs at Ebay or elsewhere. I waited months before I got mine and it was worth the money I paid.
And yes.. you don't have to sell your children/home/soul/organs to get one.
