Time for my last z knight review for a while... probalby for ever unless i canget a gilgar or great Z knight or a non insane price (HA!)
At first glance sol sabre looks kinda like the normal small z knights...
But looks can be decieving.. whats that cable?
SOL saber comes with a very very nifty remote, which i will discuss first.
the remote;s cable terminates in a fairly accurate simulation of a AAA battery. it comes with adaptors to enable it to mimic a AA battery. in conjunciton with an extra part (not shown) it can replace the batteries in any single AAA or single or double AA zoid or s knight that you cna somehow cram the cable into. Its fairly useless for screw shuts, but old fashioned clip shuts work briliantly.
the best hting about the remote is it's 2 plastic shells (one for the remote, one for the battery) a wire and a handfull of copper bits.
Thats right, unlike cp-16, you make this one yourself! ZMG!
Ok now on to the knight. Theres plenty new going on underneath the hood of SOL Saber.... litteraly
starting with a coloar lock to hold the body parts together when you have the beasties head off.
Ordinary Z knights of this size use one crank to turn the legs, and attach the arms to the hips to get htem to move.
Not SOL Saber
Lifting off hte crotch armour reveals a second set of cranks, designed to power the arms
The arms swing at a different rate of motion to the legs, giving it the appearence of marching in quicktime when active.
this is needed becasue the hip cranks, as you can see here, also do double duity moving hte levers that flap the angel wings.
stripped down to its guts, it looks similar to other z knights, but beware. that black worm gear is actualy 2 wormgears and a cog meshed together, only due to slight casting irregularities they wont mesh unless very carefuly trimed! This makes SOL Saber a real bastard to assembel correctly. if you are lucky enough to score one, beware.
Final conclusion. SOL Saber, along with D battler is one of the very hardest Z knights to get. His box art shall not be reprduced here, as it is probaby the worst box art to grace a z knight. He is also a real engineering challenge, and is the most dificult tomy toy I have assebled to date. Yes getting that gearbox to work right first time was harder than genobreakers neck, and harder than furher;s tail. You have been warned.
Ironicaly I didnt realy want sol saber much. It came in a lot i was spliting with celestine and nameless. I have to say tho that the engineering on this has blown me away. Highly recomended for hte erious colector or engineering nut.
