I got (and built) my Soul Tiger today. It’s an interesting model; its not just a Rayse Tiger with a new backpack.
In fact, its what Rayse Tiger should have been. Y’see, Tomy decided to remove a good portion of Rayse Tiger’s electronics at a relitvely late stage in the design. The empty thing on the back that looks like a battery pack plug? It is one.
The Battery pack is the same bit from Ptera Rayse, only with the electronics restored. It has four lights that connect to four tubes, each of which connects onto one of Soul Tiger’s legs. The end result is that the legs light up when the light is on. The bits of Rayse that are glow in the dark green are now clear pinky/red. The battery pack connects to the ST’s power supply and runs the light tubes built into its body. Thus the batteries in the ST’s body only power the movement. Presumably this will make the Soul a faster runner then the Rayse, as more power is going through.
The lights have their own separate power switch. It’s on the underside of the backpack, above the Soul Tiger’s neck. When the ST’s head is in the lower position, the lights are off. When it’s up, a bump on the back of the Soul’s neck presses the power button and lights it up. And I bet you always wondered why it had a raising and lowering neck.
It’s not all good. I’ll say now that the new claws and visor blow goats. They’re ugly, and the claws are also rather goofy and impractical looking. I’m this far away form taking them off and just leaving them with Rayse’s normal claws. Also, it’s a bit flatter looking; the bits of Rayse that were blue and black are now al the same white.
But it is a definite improvement over the Rayse Tiger. I’d recommend it over the standard Rayse if you don’t have it already, and if you do have Rayse, I’d say it is still worth a look.
