m'k. So my DCS-J arrived today. Smelling strongly of moth balls might I add poor thing, needs to be aired out...
So anyway, this is my first actual shield liger. I have 3 blade ligers, but had never gotten a shieldliger till today ^_^ I might try and get the normal and holotech versions still.. but anyway, DCS-J I wanted more than the rest of them. The MK II colors don't sit well with me. And ever since I saw pheno's DCS-J I knew I'd get one, someday, somehow.
So.. as a LTD the DCS-J is pretty cool. A recolor with a nice box and a rare CP. It comes with one of those fan books (boy do I miss those.. ) sadly though it doesn't get any custom stickers as far as I can tell. I don't have a normal shield liger, but nothing there screams custom.
Anyway, the interesting thing about the DCS-J I noted was the instructions. Most zoids that come with CPs have their instructions combined. My k wolf MK II, command wolf AC etc do. The DCS-J though includes a normal shield liger instruction book, and a CP 1 instruction book weird. I guess that's how they did the early LTDs. Oh and I got 2 CP 1 instruction booklets by mistake somehow. hehe, happened with my CP 15 too.. so if anyone needs a one leme know.
Anyhow, the DCS-J is beautiful. The black, glossy armor is sleek. (Think hasbro e-liger glossy). The silver sets it off beautifully. Now since I don't have a normal shieldy to compare to i'm going to make an assumption. The claws and teeth sprue is normally shiny silver i'm guessing..? Well, the DCS-J's got an extra sprue of shiny silver parts (not quite as shiny as the teeth/claws though) which I assume on a shield liger is probably some flat shade of grey. Well the tubes on the underbelly and such are silver. Also, the leg structure pieces all have a clearly visible metallic sheen to them, which I assume on a normal shieldy is probably flat grey. Someone please clarify for me..? ^_^; The spare unused parts that are used on saber tiger are also in this silver, I may be putting them on my maroon saber tiger as I think they'll look good hehe.
So the majority of the DCS-J is metallicy/glossy save for the body structure. It also comes with black caps which I think look excellent. Anywho, enough about the color. Onto some molding issues.
I noticed that instead of the normal screw in battery cover the DCS-J has one of the earlier designs that snap on if you get what I mean. Not having any other shield liger versions I dunno if this is the norm or not o-o;
The head. My head fits together very nice and tight ans has almost no wobble/bobbly head action. I can just barely tilt it from side to side. I hear shield ligers have horrible loose wobbly head issues. I know my blade ligers all do
The body -just like my saber tiger it very loosely fits together until you slide the clips on to hold it together. The back fits pretty tightly but the front is horrible. Once clipped though it's fine. ONe of my cable things that goes over the battery compartment likes to come loose and fall out. That's probably an individual model thing and not the shieldy at large though...
I don't own a normal CP 1, so I don't know what color they are normally. The DCS-J's is again, shiney silver. It offsets the black amazingly, particularly the fangs.
Construction was easy. I procrastinated on the legs because I hate building lgier legs.. x.x so tedious. As far as I can tell there are no major mould/design flaws, and i've heard shieldy is rife with 'em. So am I just lucky with this particular DCS-J or is the DCS-J shieldy in general better quality because it was designed so early and the moulds probably weren't as worn then?
Anyway, my conclusion:
-A must have if you have the spare cash, have bad painting skills, and really love the DCS-J. It's a very distinguishing zoid imo.
The good:
-Excellent, beautiful color scheme
-Very good moulding, nice and tight fit, particularly on the head.
The bad:
-Way overpriced. Yeah, I spent as much on this as I did for my pegasus. To me was it worth it? Oh hell yes. To most people? nope. Get a can of paint and a CP 01.
-No custom decals
-Slightly loose fitting belly hose
The ugly:
nothing. I love it. completely.
And yes, I aplologize for the lack of pictures. My room's too dark, and I doubt i'll be able tog et any clear ones but I will try tomorrow. If you want pictures though, pheno's are just fine and a helluva lot better than anything my camera will produce.
