After taking pictures to update the Zoids Reference Centre with a spate of new aquisitions, I decided I might as well post reviews of the various Zoids here. So here goes; part one:
Gul Tiger
Ze Good
He's a pretty cool little Zoid, actually. I know the colour scheme doesn't have many fans, but Gul Tiger's unique curvey design and very minimalistic detailing lets him pull the colours off in a way I don't think any other Zoid could dream of. The colours are also well chosen; they say "i'm blinding but i'm quality" unlike Hasbro Battle Cougar's "i'm blinding and I want your eyes!"
I was also surprised to find the yellow gun was jointed so that it could pivot up-and-down as well as side-to-side rather than just being mounted on a regular hardpoint.
Oh, and he comes with a cool dark-chrome pilot. Whoo!
Ze Bad
Just like most other Grade Ups, Gul Tiger's construction isn't the most complex out there. The fact that your have to build the motor helps, but if this guy get's a rerelease and the motor comes pre-built like Hound Soldier and Battle Cougar, he'll probably struggle to amuse you for all of five minutes. His construction (and subsequently his walking movement) is almost identical to the aforementioned Battle Cougar, but the design works and the movement get's him where he's going.
Sadly, the stickers shown on the box aren't all included with the kit (so you thought that was just Hasbro? ) and I had to scavenge that red stripe around the gun off another sheet.
Ze Ugly
Like most OJRs, this Zoid won't come cheap. He ranges from about $60 (£35) to $90 (£51) so be prepared to fork out a fair bit if you want him.
The back legs also look stupid and completely out of place from the knee down. Bah.
Conclusion
Recommended, but only for those who don't mind spending.
