After the discontinuation of the Mechabonica line in Japan, Tomy renamed the series as Zoids and issued a small collection of nameless kits in various parts of the world as a market test. A high turnover in Europe, America and Japan prompted the release of the OER, Robostrux and OJR respectively; however, poor sales of the Australian run meant that the line was abandoned in that part of the world.

Dinosaur Type
Renamed Garius in Japan and Tyrannazoid in Europe

Kit Overview - A very simple yet effective design. Once wound up, the Zoid will walk forwards and wave its arms up and down.

Bird Type
Renamed Glidoler in Japan and Terrazoid in Europe

Kit Overview - Once wound up, the Zoid will roll forwards whilst rotating blips on the motor push the wings up and down. The feet also move in a ‘walking’ movement, these are attached to the wheels via pegs.

Kit Overview - Once wound up, the Zoidwill wobble and slide forwards whilst the ears flap.

Kit Overview - Once wound up, the flippers flap in and out to propel the Zoid forwards in water whilst the polystyrene-filled flotation tanks keep it afloat. On land it will roll forwards on wheels whilst flapping its flippers.

Giant ZRK
Renamed Bigasauru in Japan

Kit Overview - Giant ZRK is a steady but slow walker. Very slow. The back legs also tend to go up a little too far and get stuck if the tail or leg caps become a bit loose.
In addition to the walking movement, ZRK’s neck moves up and down and left to right in an ingenious movement which keeps the head level at all times.

Mammoth

Kit Overview - Though not technically part of this line, Mammoth was released around the same time and is often counted as such. It was available from Radioshack and is identical to the Japanese Mammoth with the exception of 'Tandy' being written on the battery cover instead of Tomy.
Once activated, the Zoid walks forwards, its ears flap back and forth and the trunk moves up and down in an ingenious movement which keeps the gun level at all times.

Powerzoid
Renamed Tank in Europe

Kit Overview - Tank is the only Zoid to be fitted with working suspension and was one of two Zoids that were not released in Japan, the other being Serpent. Serpent and Tank are the only two Zoids ever released that do not come with any rubber caps.
The Zoid can come with one of three different coloured sets of wheels: brown (made in Japan), black (made in Singapore) or the rumoured blue. Aside from the colours the models are identical.
Unfortunately, the tyres tend to degenerate over time and it is hard to find a Tank Zoid in truly mint condition.
Once turned on, Tank will speedily roll forwards. Its wheels are also interchangeable with those of Serpent.

Powerzoid
Renamed Serpent in Europe

Kit Overview - Serpent was one of only two Zoids that were not released in Japan, the other being Tank. Serpent and Tank are the only two Zoids ever released that do not come with any rubber caps.
The Zoid can come with one of three different coloured sets of wheels: grey, green or the harder to find brown. Aside from the colours the models are identical.
Once turned on, Serpent will speedily roll forwards. Its wheels are also interchangeable with those of Tank.
