Hey everyone. Just a quick heads up. I made a few more zoids items in my spot in thangs.com and crealitycloud. I made a zoids logo pencil holder. I also took a shot at creating an actual planet Zi globe for everyone. It was a real challenge. I found a map easy enough. However you just can't simply paste a map onto a sphere and be done. Anyway project completed. It is 2 files because one can light the inside thus one file is a cap for that hole. It has part of the antarctic on that cap darn it. If you go and see tell me what you think. It is my 1st globe and I'm still a rooky at making things. It is what it is. Thanks for reading and or looking.

Actually I may just try again on the globe and add longitude and latitude lines. I'd also like to give it height texturing but that is a more complex issue to solve.

So Monday my very 1st 3d scanner arrived. It is a matter and form 3d scanner. The software seems user friendly. It has an option where you can clean up scans a bit and then combine several scans of the same object in different positions. Then you create a mesh afterwards. I hope this will do what I'm needing to accomplish. It is a good starter scanner anyway and the price was only 100 bucks so I actually stole it. Before purchasing I talked with someone in the biz. I was looking at his revopoint pop2 scanner. He told me with the objects as small as some of these may get I better not invest in his as it was for much larger objects generally. It prompted me towards this model. While I may still not achive every object scanability at least I can have a starting point. So now begins another toy to learn and grow with to hopefully get even further towards my lofty goals. Time will tell. Oh and the guy offered his services at 75 to 125 per scan of object. But after doing the math of the 100's of items needing scanned,it just isn't cost effective. Now after I do some practicing I intend to attempt tearing apart one of my 2 drillgan units for scanning and copying to finally offer custom drillgan units to zoiders since 30+ years of begging Tomy to has fell on deft ears! This is project numberal uno! Btw has any one else ever opened one of them up? Besides the 4 clam shells, 2 halfs, 1 gun,1drive shaft and a mounting pin for said gun what else am I in for? I'd imagine a wavy riding gear or some such to time the open and close and thrusting of the gun, but simply unsure.

Wonderful, you're doing God's work. Sounds like you're 1st in line on those drillgans! What colors are ya thinking on?

O-oh jeez, I have two different colored gildragons I could equip.. but I have no idea if they're even still okay in their boxes after all these years Same problem here i have 4 Gilvaders. One, the new pearlish white, one the ojr color and 2 chromies of 1 red with gold chrome highlights and the other silver with blue chrome highlights both from mechdioz...his display models. But my evil plan actually is to replace horrid lances on the sides of evil pegasus with drillgans run by springy coils, like on others, T'd off via scitex splitters, that way they could still do with forward and backward motions when walking. A decades old evil plan anyway. If at all possible. They will also have to be a bit further away from the body to open properly.

Today I finally have achieved a successful scan of an object with my 3d scanner. I've been trying to get a good scan and have had 6 runs that all were way too blocky to even bother with meshing them. I wasn't sure why it wasn't scanning as it should. Then I backed down the intensity of the lasers. My quality of the scans improved dramatically. The test object sent with my matter and form 3d scanner was a squeaky toy frog. As of today I have a decent stl file of said frog. At the time of typing this, it is scanning a whole drillgan. After I have 3 or 4 scans of it to align into 1 I can get a mesh of it. If that goes well I intend to disassemble it and start the project all this was leading to for a very very long time. I do so hope I can finally pull this off. Wish me luck!

Well I'm still having issues with scanning. The clam shells seem to scan just fine. However the main body doesn't. The issue I believe is that part is simply too shinny to scan properly. Scanning spray is very expensive at 60 bucks a rattle can. I believe I can achive the same results rattle can chalk spray. The only draw back is having to clean it afterwards. This is the only way I can see to get the results I'm working towards. If I do this I have to feel confident I will get the results required to get good scans. I intend to buy the spray chalk. I think I'll use it on something else before my final mount of the task ahead. Anyway that's the current plan. I do so ever want this to be a successful experience. I set my bar awfully high for the rookie I am. However this is what I got all this stuff for in the 1st place.

I hope the chalk spray works... let us know! I've only tried to use my scanner a few times but need a more robust computer to really use it. I'll take any tips I can get!

So the chalk spray arrived this week. I was excited. Tonight is the 1st try using it. The kind I bought was goofy foot chalk spray. Since I wanted a shinny piece to try I opted for a piece off the newly arrived stegosage since the armour was painted and shinny. The chalk spray is very horribly liquidy, almost water like, and don't coat worth a darn. Giving a scan of the piece anyway just to see if it improves it any. I just may have to bite the bullet and spend 60 bucks on quality scanning spray after all. This time going cheap seems to have wasted time, but the scan isn't done yet I may be wrong. But I think I will buy the good stuff with my next pay check. Penny wise and pound foolish may have just cost me some time. However this old fool and his money have often parted easily. The stegosage is a shinning example of that.

Well the scan completed the outside met with somewhat of a success. However the inside was botched horribly. I found it next to impossible to clean it up so the mounting studs were just a blobby mess. I may be also trying out polycam and see if it will do a better job via photogametry than this model of matter and form laser scanner does. Plus yes I found the scanning spray for 30ish so it will be purchased. The chalk was fine once it dried but the results of the scan were not enough of a success to continue. Maybe I'll try again with a less complicated piece. However what I'm heading towards will be complicated pieces so I need successful scans of that caliber.
