What do you think the deal is? Anyone think this has to do with the Zoids Wild release?

I've wondered, too. Maybe they were asked to not compete with the TT line's release so consumers would direct their buying power at Zoids Wild?

I've already stated my opinion in other threads, but I suspect Koto is backing away from Zoids because they've already handled the 2 major series. It's not that there aren't oodles of Zoids that they could release, but now they've got Hexgear, which suitably replaces Zoids in their need for animal mechs. They sport a nice mishmash of HMM and Horizon. I suspect they even share some of the designers, given one of the earlier releases literally had the exact same claw design as the HMM Blade Liger. With Zoids Wild taking the lead in supporting the Zoids franchise, especially with their excellent sales, it's a fitting time for Koto to look in other directions.
Though again, this doesn't really belong in news. There is, after all, a distinct lack of news.

Hexgear could easily be the main reason they have floated away; they are not limited by licenses and they can make the whole line perfectly compatible with their MSGs and other products.

Kotobukiya hasn't even announced if it's dead or not. I don't think the line is dead. I think they already completed Wave 2.

I'm fairly confident "wave 2" only exists as a tagline for when they wanted to take a long hiatus and wanted to reassure people that they'd be back. Which we heard about fairly early. We have no such announcement this time. Then again, it's just not a good move to publicly announce the line is dead, so the lack of confirmation means very little. We didn't hear official "We're done" announcements for most of the Zoids model/figure lines. Maybe they want to keep the doors open for future possibilities, but for the time being, it sure seems like they've turned their focus elsewhere.

Kotobukiya hasn't even announced if it's dead or not. Yeah but Koto never announced the end of the D-Style or ZA line either, so that's not saying much really. Koto kinda tends to let lines fade into oblivion

Koto kinda tends to let lines fade into oblivion I have to say that while it's good to see (sort of) old school Zoids back, I'm going to miss Koto's offerings if they're done with the franchise. I was hoping to add a few more Zoids Aggressive figures to my collection - at the vey least, I'd like them to give us the Jager, Schneider, Panzer, Empire and X versions of Liger Zero.

Huh, interesting. I saw this tweet from HobbyLink Japan:
Which sounds like Kotobukiya might resume production/new releases at some point? Who really knows though.

I'd be more worried if this said "at least a year" instead of "approximately". This pretty much sounds like they're backing off specifically for about a year to make room on the market for the motorized Zoids Wild kits, and then they'll come back.
And the more I think about it, the more it seems like the obvious thing to do - ZW has clearly reinvigorated interest in Zoids in a massive way, if you look at how quickly initial releases of new models sell out everywhere. Kotobukiya would be stupid not to try and benefit from that.
On the other hand, we don't know the details of the licensing deal between TT and Kotobukiya. The license might be so expensive that Hexagear, where they own all the rights, is more profitable, and it's possible that this break is because TT is already trying to negotiate an increase in the licensing fee now that the IP is considerably more valuable than it was a year ago. But at least this sounds like there are long-term plans, that can't be a bad thing.
As an 80s Zoids grampa, by the way, I think it's kind of interesting how the long absence of TT has now produced an entire generation of Zoids fans that really only know the HMMs and don't even like the motorized kits. There's angry chocolate vs vanilla debates on the internets and everything.

As a 90s Zoids... not grampa? I'm glad you veterans have stuck around! I'm thankful I was able to be the target audience for at least one round of Tomy motorized kits. They really do have their charm.
To the main point though, I also took that statement as an encouraging sign that Kotobukiya may revive the line at some point. I hadn't thought about the increased value of the IP, but if possible it'd be great to have both companies making Zoids kits.
