After looking at the listing, they will probably state if the box is damage to the model pre-built. You could always email them if you have a question about a particular item

I've probably ordered 150-200+ zoids from Mandarake and bought a few from them while in Japan several years ago. I've only had one problem in several years of buying from them. They had the wrong zoid listed but I kept it (needed it anyway) and they gave me a discount on my next order.
Anyway all of the zoids/ items are preowned. Mandarake will occasionally sell built zoids (I've only seen 1 or 2 in several years) but most of the time they are MIB or opened but frames are still in original plastic bags. The boxes are usually in pretty good shape but sometimes they are dented or faded. The listing will say if the box is in bad shape or it will have multiple pictures.

Wow... So just because they're technically preowned, they're THAT cheap? I mean I'm seeing ludicrously low prices here.. like 1000 yen for panzer unit. Is the shipping just terrible?

It's quite expensive, but not terrible. Making and order from a shop costs you like 500 yen (handling), so if you want to but more things it would be better if you order all of them from the same shop. In Japan you don't usually get your money back in a shop when you are given a present and you want to return it because you have it. So there is a lot of people who resell things. Also, being a consume focused society they buy a lot, and then resell things the bought on a whim.

This is definitely worth investigating then! I knew some source of affordable non-hmm zoids would show up if we were just patient.

If you place an order for over 5000 yen (50ish dollars) at one store the 500 yen handling fee will not apply/ be waved.
Shipping can be really bad for big zoids or boxes. I try to order multiple zoids at once to get the 500 yen handling fee waved and cut down on shipping cost.

Thanks for that tip, I guess I won't just try to snap up that Panzer unit (especially since i already got one on ebay, but DAMN that is cheap for something everyone wants), i'll wait and try to think about a larger order.

Is there a Mandarake branch anywhere near Iwakuni or Hiroshima? I move to the mainland VERY soon and will finally be able to support you guys on the Zoid hunt. I will also have a Japanese address to ship to so I can participate in auctions or whatnot.

I'm not sure if they do. Mandarake has a list of all of their locations here.
