Takara/Tomy owns the Zoids franchise, of course. But Hasbro owns the distribution rights for Zoids in the US. What would it take for Hasbro to produce a Zoids anime of their own, to air on their HUB network, and produce a line of new model kits to promote it? What permissions would they need to acquire from Tomy/Takara regarding the use of Zoids characters (the Zoids themselves, not the human characters from previous anime--as I am sure those would definitely be off-limits for use in a new show) and the molds to produce new model kits? Marvel produced their own Zoids comic in the 1980s and a different toy company, Kenner I believe, of course produced several different Zoids lines before the most recent US release ten years ago. I do not know what permissions they required to do this, but if it happened in the past, would it not be theoreticly possible for it to happen again? I do not really think this is likely, of course. I am asking out of honest curiosity, as I know nothing about the business of copyrights and licensing (as you probably all can guess ).

What would it take? More interest than the fandom has the means to show.

Hasbro actually does not have the license at all anymore. They haven't had it for a while. The XBox 360 Zoids Assualt/Alternative game was released here without so much as a mention of Hasbro on the box or in the game itself.
