Gul Tiger could be doable considering HLJ is selling them for half off (1500 yen vice 3000 yen). King Ligers are priced at 1250 yen.
EDIT: Brave Jaguar basic kit for 351 yen!

A combination of the pricing and my lack of enthusiasm for Gul Tiger are the only things keeping me from making a commitment. But Brave Jag? I would totally leap at that one!

There's two problems here that I see with the tight economy: Shipping and Chroming Costs.
First is the cost of getting the Zoids shipped to whoever is going to send them in for chroming. Second, there is the cost to ship the parts to the chromer, and the cost to ship them back from the chromer. Then, there is the shipping cost to distribute the Zoid to the investing parties.
Chroming costs... My example is only a ballpark, but getting chroming in multiple colors for the Zoid will definitely cost more. So picking a Zoid that could be partially chromed would definitely reduce the costs. but can there be a happy solution among all interested parties?
The reality is this:
Given the state of the economy, getting a Zoid partially chromed with all of the shipping costs is going to be challenging to do in the $40-$50 dollar range. We'd definitely be looking at a Zoids like a Saicurtis, Grounchar etc. Basically, the Zoids that don't have a lot of demand.
It's really cheapest for Zoiders to handle their own chroming. And while the examples of chroming in the Philippines is impressive, there is a huge shipping cost that I do believe has not been factored into the price being quoted to us. Based on what I've seen, we could be looking at another $20-$25 for shipping the Gul Tiger to us here in the US.
Am I in the ballpark for the shipping costs of Gul Tiger to the US? I've bought a few things from the Philippines and the prices I paid bounced around those numbers.

Unfortunately.... its RCZ era now here in the Philippines that is also why im having a hard time finding the previous batches of NJR wind-ups on local suppliers.
But anyway, Since we are all tight on budget.... I have an idea but ill have to post the actual pics first before I say anything. Im sure you'll all like it.
With regards to shipping, yes that is also a factor to be considered. That is also why if i was to get the items locally, it would lessen the cost of shipping to the Philippines and the handling cost to the chroming company unlike if i were to get a lot on an online shop or auctions.
On a lighter note... id like to quote a message to tilly which is also applicable on this situation...
"In my honest opinion... aside from having a group chrome, i really encourage these types of collaboration (commissioned projects) like the one im having with several friend and fellow zoiders... why u ask? Coz i dont want these chromies to be fully commercialized! Given that they actually have no specific resale value... I want you guys to enjoy what you are going to have as much as you can... as long as you can... and most specially because its one of those dream projects that you are aiming or have always dreamed to do!"

I like ideas almost as much as I like prices.

Grimm, I'd like to make a suggestion:
Currently, HLJ has Kingliger on sale for 1125 yen. Unless my math is WAY off... with EMS to the Philippines, I think they would average somewhere around $20 a kit.
There's also Warewolf's suggestion: Brave Jaguar. They're on sale for 351 yen a piece, and are much lighter and smaller, and would cost even less to ship, as well as have less material to chrome, and would be cheaper overall.

Maybe each of us can buy our own zoid and mail them to be chromed, but have them all the same color so they match. This way, each of us can get something that we like and can afford. This still leaves the chroming and shipping prices, though.

In order for the Zoid to be a Pheno's exclusive chromie, it would have to be approved by the people heading up the project. Which -excludes- me. I'm just a blabber here.
Typically, the Zoids would be the same type, with the same chroming effect. Though now that I think about it, chroming options could vary based on orders, but I think it would lessen the effect of a commissioned project.
I'm sure Grimm would be happy to accept Zoids for chroming on a one-on-one basis, provided the quantities would meet his chromer's minimum amount.
In what little snooping around that I have done over time on the websites in the Phillipines, I'm confident Grimm can present a chromie option that meets the budget needs of nearly all interested parties. He may have to pull some deals, and sharpen his pencils to make the budget fit, but I think he could come through in the end.
I wouldn't be interested in any Blox Zoids Chromies. But it's a group decision, so I may be out on this one.

I'm not really interested in Blox either.
Leoshop also has Command Striker and Gorhecks for very cheap, though I'm not sure how much it'd cost to ship a bunch of them.

I don't really have any preferance to the Zoid itself (although something I haven't already got is always good), just as long as the thing is SHINY :3 And not too expencive

I know quite a bit of the forum is rather anti-blox, but from a financial standpoint, something like Brave Jaguar would be the most feasible from a shipping and surface-area perspective, which is mainly the reason I was backing up the suggestion; $130 is quite a steep investment.
Myself, I couldn't drop that much on a chromed Gultiger; It's not a zoid I'm particularly fond of, and Grimm's plan entails the same color scheme as it comes in. When it comes to chrome, something new would be more interesting.

Each of us has his own preference I guess.. but imho, we cant go wrong with a color scheme that is based on original colors released by the TT or hasbro unless its really bad... way bad! With chroming, you either make your kit look regal and elegant or you end up owning a colorful, shiny and fancy looking ornament for the local circus! And now I ask... Who doesnt want to see a bloody chromed Storm Tyrant? But again... on the other hand if its a custom chromed kit specifically for a person... any color scheme would be good as long as the end product is what he/she really wants it to be! -Grimm

A chrome Storm Tyrant would cost more than my car... but oh, sooooo pretty! (Can Storm Tyrants be pretty?) May as well go out and think up a dark chrome Geno-Jet, too, but it would really have to be shiny grey over shiny orange for me. I'm not a big chrome fan, but once in a while I see one that is really striking. I always felt a solid gold or silver chrome kit is more fitting as an award trophy for a contest than a kit of the line, but there are examples that look really sleek. Hmm. What about a Dark Zoid chromed Deathpion?

Fun Ideas, Maethius. Since we are digressing to ridiculously expensive chrome ideas then let's do a chrome Ultrasaurus. We can even do it in silver and RED, in honor of the elusive and mysterious red Ultrasaurus. Then we can add a gold chromed Republic Customize Set!. That is a vision indeed! If we are going to dream crazy then let's go all out. ;D I disagree with the idea that Zoids look their best when chromed in their original colors. I believe there was a Blue and Gold chrome version of Shadow Fox. Yep, there was. I'd give the link to the pics, but it's Tilly's album and I'd rather have her permission before doing so. That indeed was an excellent color scheme. I'm not particularly fond of Gorhecks, but if the price was right and the color scheme was good, I'd probably go for it. Grimm, I get the feeling you are prepping us here at Pheno's for your idea on this budget-minded chrome option. I'd like to see your idea. And your price.

But Grimm, Gultiger's stock colors make it look like the latter; a circus attraction. D:
