Power Kong . . . New Zoid . . . a Hasbro Zoid?

I just happened to glance at the back cover of my Zoids CC/GF DVD, (Volume 10: Hope . . . very ironic since this is when the Death Stinger makes its appearance). In any case, my eyes just skimmed over the zoid that was featured, since Hasbro still advertises their models or action figures on DVDs anyways. When it crossed my mind that this was a NEW zoid, however, I was forced to do a double-take, "WHUUUUUUHHHHH??"

Opinion-wise, it's cool, yet horrendously painful to see at the same time (a post-modern Quasimodo comes to mind).

Still, I'm interested in facts more than anything else. I haven't seen anything new on the Hasbro website, but this zoid is definitely a new one to me, and the DVD itself just recently came out.

Is this an indication of Hasbro's position on zoids (at least in the action figure department)? Are there others we should look out for? Why is everyone jumping on the King Kong band wagon? Any further information to confirm or deny this thing's existence and what it may indicate would be appreciated.

Fascinating.

I'm inclined to think that its a prototype that will never see production. Hasbro pulled most of the various protypes that weren't released before the line ended (Battle Rex, Cannon Ceasar and Houndsoldier come to mind), and there was never anyhting that resembed said illustration. Furthermore, during the years of the NAR, we never saw anyhting like the Power Kong there. The only Hasbro orignal Munky Zoid was the Gorillatron... and this thing doesn't look anyhtying like it.

My best guess is that Viz randomy picked out somrhting and slapped it on the video... not knowing that the Zoid was never released or going to be released. I'd say that the odds of a Hasbro releaunch are bog all... and that this guy is no idicator of it. Sorru.

And now ofr an analysys.

Despite the label, I don't think this is an Action Figure. It has full sized caps (And blue ones at that!) which is more likely indicitive of a motirised kit. However, it lacks the foot stabilisers that it would need, and its pose is sugestive of a non-motoirised toy. Interesting. It's got no signs of having a Blox, however. By comaring the size of the caps (which look to be the regular large types), I'd say its no bigger then a TB8 blox like Brachiozilla. Probably smaller.

I have no idea.

I agree with Rick, I don't think it's an action figure. It actually does have the foot stabilizers but you have to look really closely, they aren't the typical 2-prong type of stabilizers, the inner section of the foot extends out and there's another little piece sticking out by the heel. This guy is really ugly but at the same time oddly cool. I'm fascinated.

OK, so htis hting is a small-mid sized, er, battery op Zoid using large-size caps. And it is very oldy posed with an outstretched "punching" fist.

And oyu are right. This figure is both ugly and cool. And the name is un to say. I want one. Bad.

Being a monkey fan, I would have had to get this one. He could have kept gorilla tron company in the junk/darth bin. It is good that it never came to be.

Ah, so it really is probably a model instead of an action figure. Well, that gives it more potential play value, I suppose.

I'm going to have to disagree with you, Konig Breaker. Even if this is/was a prototype (an apparently very complete prototype), I don't think it was meant to be a blox like Ray Kong/Gorilla Tron.

I saw that when I got my 10th GF DVD too. I was a bit confused, and I guess it sparked a little interest, but nothing much more past that. I was more spazzing over the episodes on the DVD rather then what they put on the back. >>

Plus, whoever is doing the bios and translations stuff for the DVDs.. well.. They SUCK. No offense to them, but seriously! Do they even watch the episodes before popping a bunch of half-accurate facts and wrongly pronounced names on them?! *Spaz* It jerks my chain sometimes. -.-

I like it myself. Its posture is more like that of a true gorilla than Iron Kong's was. Judging by the picture, it looks like it shares some of IK's parts too.

I am going to disagree and say this is probably an action figure. Only reason i am saying is the way that there are caps built into the model that are not blue they are just part of the model, and about the fist on the other side, i see no way that the no-punching fist would be positioned like that the way the joints seem to be presented. But i could very well be wrong. I also agree that though it is pretty damned ugly, i would like to see more of it in model kit from if thats what it really is. I might even buy it if Hasbro makes a zoid comeback.

He would'nt have been so bad if it was'nt for those arms. I mean, just look at them. They're bigger than his legs and as long as his body. How would he have been able to lift them off the ground??

Actually, the limb proprtions aore aobut right for both a real gorilla and all the othetr Gorilla Zoids so far. All of them (Iron kong, Hammerock, Gorillatron, Gorem and even Silverkong) have had huge arms and tiny legs. In fac,t his legs are porptionally larger then most of theirs.

It would have been the most forced yet if it was, but i guess that could be right. I still think it is an action figure though, just looking at the pic do to the uncolored caps and stuff.

Listen to Deadborder and myself. Maybe this will also help explain a few things.

This is your typical, lowland silverback gorilla:

Notice the proportions are very similar to that of the Power Kong, and all other Gorilla-type zoids. Yes, the arms are huge, but that is a key feature on gorillas because they usually move on all fours with a slouching posture.

Now, here is the gorilla standing upright.

Notice how the gorilla has no trouble with any body parts no matter what their size. These are some of the most powerful animals on Earth. They are strong enough to flail you around like a Beanie Baby. The Power Kong, while on the chubby side (some Gorillas are beefy as well) would have no trouble doing the same.
