Once more, with feeling: time for the fourth annual Forum Customizing Competition!
As run by Tilly, 'cause Pheno is busy. Direct complaints, questions, and Lidiers her way. Not his.
The contest starts today, January 18th (that is, NOW) and runs untilWednesday Thursday, March 1st. That gives you exactly six weeks to finish your custom.
Explanation and rules:
As always, we don't need no stinkin' theme! You're free to make pretty much whatever you can with whatever you want, so long as the end result is a Zoid. Rules are as follows:
- Anyone can enter so long as they were a registered member before the contest started.
- The limit is one custom per person, period - don't try to fudge it with multiple accounts.
- You must create a new custom specifically for the contest - no starting ahead of time or reusing/reworking old customs. This puts everyone on the same playing field time-wise.
- Your custom must be Zoid-based and fully painted where paint is needed - for example, no Blox bashes unless they're made to match each other properly.
- As per tradition and for the sake of fairness (seeing something early on might influence voting oddly, and people work at their own pace), you may NOT post pictures/teasers for your custom on this forum or any other website until the contest is over and voting has begun. If you're caught doing so, you're disqualified.
Instead of having a regular winner and runner ups, this year the contest has three categories:
Best Structure
This is for stuff cobbled together into something completely different. Mad epoxy and sheet styrene weapons, armor, even entire Zoids? Clever things built out of many other existing pieces? Goes here.
Best Paintjob
Self-explanatory. The colors, the weathering, the mad airbrushing...all that falls under this.
Best Story
Fluff text and storytelling is an art all its own. Ignoring how the Zoid looks or how it was built, which one's story was the most fun to read? Pick one and nominate it here.
There will still be a first-prize winner: the award Best in Show will be chosen based on the most votes overall, regardless of whether a Zoid won a category or categories.
What to send:
E-mail Tilly (storchofdoom@yahoo.com) from the e-mail address you registered with. Include your member ID and display name (that is, both the name you use to log in and what shows with your posts) along with the following:
Two photos (up to 640x480 pixels) of your custom, preferably jpg format. Editing multiple small photos into one that fits these dimensions is fine, and you may have one pic in edited diorama style so long as the other shows the custom NOT retouched - that is, you aren't using your Photoshop-fu to hide flaws.
Optional but good to include:
- A base listing of stats (size, speed, weapons, etc.)
- Around three sane-sized paragraphs of fluff text and/or story. (Or, to give a more concrete limit, around 200-400 words, 500 max.)
If you have more story, more photographs, or other added information, you may also include ONE link to it in your entry. Be it a photo gallery with descriptions, an HTML page...you get one "more info" link, period.
If you need assistance resizing photos/creating a basic page/etc., please contact Tilly, who will attempt to help (but will not write anything for you, that's cheating!).
Prizes:
All category winners get $20 to spend at Toy-Wave how they so choose, a Custom Blox, and the following bonuses.
Structure: Rare DinoX bootleg (see Darth Tom's for a pic) and clear Buster Eagle Wing (yes, one wing...)
Paintjob: Beam Gatling (CP-03) and Pile Bunker (CP-08)
Story: Bear Fighter (MIB Hasbro) & Assault Gatling Unit (CP-15)
Best in Show recieves a Shield Liger DCS-J (rerelease), three custom Blox, and $50 to spend at Toywave.
These prizes may not be doomy, but keep in mind they've all been donated by the staff. The solution for bigger prizes, is, of course, to give us money -_o.
Voting:
When voting opens, e-mail Tilly (storchofdoom@yahoo.com) from the e-mail address you registered with. You may vote for yourself, but be prepared for people giggling at your ego. Voters must also have been registered since before the contest started - this prevents people registering fake accounts to sway voting (we'll catch you anyway!)
You MUST include the following:
Your member ID and display name (that is, both the name you use to log in and what shows with your posts). This will be checked and posted along with your vote to prevent people from cheating.
Your choices for the following categories (see above for explanation):
Best Paintjob
Best Structure
Best Story
(do not include a vote for Best in Show, this is chosen based on total votes recieved in ALL categories)
You will recieve a confirmation e-mail that your vote was recorded within 24 hours. If you don't, PM Tilly to let her know you're having issues getting a vote through.
Good luck to everyone crazy enough to enter - now get going and build some cool stuff!
