That's a little mean. I think that you should vote for your entry *if* you think that your entry is the best. To vote for something other than the best just for the sake of voting somebody else is pretty sycophantic. In the real world, you are expected to stand behind your work, and there are no prizes for false modesty. In my experience, it's only at school that you are encouraged to deny the worth of your own creation even if you think it's the best. Of course, if you vote for your own entry even though you objectively think somebody else's *is* better, *then* you're a bit of a wiener. The last time I vote myself , someone gave a sarcastic reply about those who vote their own customs That doesn't mean you should do it to others though.

I personally think that in the spirit of fairness, you should not be allowed to vote for your own entry. If you have to vote for your own entry then that seems as though you're just trying to boost result scores for yourself. If you are skilled, I firmly beleive you sould give your vote to someone else's entry and still win.

Hell, maybe theres a chance in hell that if I stab in the dark I might get 1 vote. Try not to vote yourself this time round :X I never voted for myself. . I havent even entered until now.....

If you vote for something other than the one you think is best, you're unbalancing the poll (remember, it's a small voting population, after all). IF it's considered 'wrong' to vote for yourself, then there are two ways to apply that fairly: 1- no entrant can vote 2- an entrant *must* vote, but not for self If there are no rules about who you can and can't vote for, there is no reason for anybody to hurl toys out of their cots if somebody does vote for themselves.

1. I NEVER mentioned the word "WRONG" 2. IF you're really that good then your vote to someone else would NOT unbalance the poll that significantly. 3. It would be 'fair' in the sense that people do not vote for themselves to UNBALANCE the poll. 4. By you voting for your own custom, it only indicates to others that you are incompetent of winning fairly.
Does that explain my argument to you clearly now? Plus you also have the choice not to vote for anyone. Or how the competition could be done is selected via a criteria. Ie, completion accuracy, detailing, etc... Rather than a popularity vote.

I agree with Celestine. If you vote for your own custom, it just shows that you are either- Really that amzing. If you are, you will get an amount of votes anyway, how is 1 vote gonna make a difference.
Or- A pompous jerk who is so full of themself that they think that their custom is the best and totally deserves to win.
(Apologies if I was too blunt and mean)

Plus you also have the choice not to vote for anyone. Or how the competition could be done is selected via a criteria. Ie, completion accuracy, detailing, etc... Rather than a popularity vote. 1. The inverted commas were for emphasis and distance, not to make a direct quotation. 2. The imbalance is, as you say, small. However, if you look back at the voting last time, the voting population was itself relatively small. Certainly it was small enough that people felt that those who voted for their own entries were skewing the vote. 3. If people vote for their own entries just to increase their chance of winning, then yes, that is interfering with the integrity of the poll. It all comes down to whether you believe people capable of making honest and fair decisions. 4. No. It indicates that *either* you are a jerk *or* you actually believe that your custom is the best. I understand your argument. I just don't agree with it Your idea of moving from a pure popularity vote to a criteria-based assessment holds a lot of pull. It requires a little more effort from the voters (requiring them to rate each zoid, not just vote for one), but that could be a good thing because it would force voters to make informed choices, rather than (as I suspect occasionally happens) picking the name of the forum member they most like.

However, in a pleasant twist, Pheno explicitly states that voting for oneself will not be allowed in any future competitions, and we're in the future right now That makes all moral and philosophical arguments for and against voting for oneself moot! Hooray for decisions on high. Assuming that entrants are allowed to vote in the polls (it would suck if they weren't), I'd like to hope that everybody did feel an obligation to cast a vote for the best entry by another person, even though abstaining would help their own chances.

I think it'd be cool to be able to pick a favorite in a number of categories too. I remember the first year not being able to decide on a favorite overall, so I just went "oh, nuts to this, I'll go with my favorite battle story". Now if I could pick, say, best story, best photos (hey, why not?), best paint work, best custom/scratchbuild work, best overall or something...that'd rock.

I'd say for the criteria based judging you have a selected panel that judges each entry. That way I think it'd be fairly than a popularity battle.
Tilly's idea sounds pretty good to me too.

more catoegories means more prizes, the mods have already put up some good ones , they would have to be diminished to have all those categories, but a booby proze maybe for all those thjings listed...

Or- A pompous jerk who is so full of themself that they think that their custom is the best and totally deserves to win. You drew a laughter from me. Hahah! I'm from the "no self vote " side of the schism but as long as we have fun then I think it's ok. Since looking at last year's result most that self-voted only have they own self-vote in the end. Cheers
