Zoid and Faction Design Contest (ZFDC):
Overview: The Zoid Design Contest is back, but with more features. The basics are the same, you join a team and design a Zoid. However, this time you also get to flesh out and design your own faction, effectively having two contests in one.
Storyline: With the Gigardo Empire facing increasing difficulties in it’s grab for power, it has come to find that it’s automated Bio Raptors have proven less than effective. In addition, its previous philosophy of only having a few highly capable Zoids with highly trained pilots greatly limited their flexibility. Seeking to fix this problem, they have called on their own scientist, allies, and whoever else they can get ahold of to design a new Zoid with the three following requirements:
1. It must be cheap enough to produce in numbers,
2. Human piloted.
3. Simple enough so that new pilots can be quickly trained to operate it.
Group Formation: Everyone who wants to participate has 3 days to sign up. PM or email myself or Colodie to sign up, I will post a sign-up thread on this board with your name, if you have signed up but do not see your name on the thread within 12 hours try PM'ing or emailing us again. Once everyone has signed up, they will be distributed as evenly as possible among groups.
*Note* I noticed after I logged on Wednesday night that I received about 8 PM's within 10 minutes, you guys may not be aware of this but you can send someone a PM regardless of whether they're logged into the forum or not.
Leaders: A leader for each group will be voted for by the Mods before the contest proper begins. The leader will be informed the day before the groups are announced. The leader has final say on all matters of the group. If the leader does not wish to be leader, he or she can appoint someone else.
Key Dates:
July 27th Sign Up Begins.
July 30th Sign Up Ends.
July 30th Group Leaders Chosen.
July 31th Group Leaders Notified.
August 1st Contest Begins.
September 1st Contest Ends.
September 1st Voting Begins.
September 8th Voting Ends.
September 8th, Noon, EST. Winners Announced.
Voting: After time has expired, no more work on the designs and factions can occur. The team leader from each group should then post their teams designs on this board. Once all designs are posted voting will commence.
Voting will then occur on the boards, in a matter similar to the first concept. The main difference will be A) More than two teams and B) Two things to vote on.
Concept:
Each team will have 4 weeks to A: Design a Zoid and B: Design a Faction.
A: The Zoid design process will be similar to the previous contest. The bare minimum will be at least one drawing of the Zoid from a side on perspective, and a description of the Zoid’s capabilities. In addition, it must meet the requirements in the Storyline section. I.e, the Zoid should no be descriped as an uber expensive, take on all comers top of the line technology that only an elite pilot could handle, and it must be human piloted
Additional effort, such as a cockpit drawing, description of a notable pilot, operations manual for the Zoid, etc etc are not required but will likely increase the groups chances of winning.
Note: Since these designs need to be a new Zoid they won't have much of a combat history or notable combat pilots to speak of.
B: Each team will decide their own for designing a Zoid for Gigardp, i.e. money, power, knowledge, etc. Using this motivation, they should design a small sub faction that they belong to. The basic minimums are a short history and a description of what your faction is after. Of course, the bare minimums likely won’t be enough. Be sure to include more details, such as the structure of your faction (i.e. ranks if applicable), current technology, perhaps even a short story.
Note: Gigardo is the superpower. Your faction should not be more powerful then they are.
Example:
You group’s motivation is survival. You could design a small faction from a distant continent that is a war with your neighbor, and loosing. You’ve received some support from the Gigardo Empire, and in return they want some of your best technicians to help them design a new Zoid. You try your best to make a good Zoid, but your also trying to acquire the knowledge and materials to make your own Zoids to defend your country, either by diplomacy or espionage.
Of course, you should have a more detailed history, how your country was founded, their assets, etc. As for motivation, you should go more in-depth at your plans to acquire Zoid technology.
Rules:
1: Your Zoid must be unique, it cannont be an animal that Tomy had already used as a Zoid design.
2: Spying or interfering with other groups is strictly prohibited. Anyone caught spying will be banned from the forums.
3: Anyone who decides to quite will be prohibited about speaking about the contest until the contest is over.
4: The leader of your group is in charge. However, the contest is meant to be fun. The leader should try to keep everyone involved and, simply, should not be a complete jerk, lest they be removed.
5: The same goes for Members. The concept is meant to be fun. If you don’t get your way, don’t be a jerk about it, or you will be removed.
Other notes:
The Zoid designed does not have to be a Bio Zoid, but as the Gigardos Empire appears to only deploy Bio Zoids, any non Bio Zoid designed should have a good story as to why it is like that.
If you design a Bio Zoid, you should take some liberties to make it unique. I.e., don’t just design a skeletal dinosaur. Also, it does not need to be prehistoric. At the same time, it should be clearly recognizable as a Bio Zoid.
ALSO, if you design a Bio Zoid it does not have to be a dinosaur, it can be any mammal, avian, etc.
If teams come up with the same idea for a faction or similar Zoids, so be it. However, if two people design dinosaurs made by a faction of uber mercenaries with their own techs and scientists, and a third group has a more unique idea, the third group will likely win. Read, being creative is good.
Also, if factions overlap somewhat, so be it. If two factions claim they are from a southern continent, so be it.
If it isn’t stated in Genesis, you can create it. Having there be a southern continent is okay. Having the southern continent be inhabited by uber people with uber tech isn’t quite so okay.
Finally:
If you have any questions, feel free to ask a neutral mod or myself.
